JOB SUMMARY: The Law Fellow provides legal services for clients under the supervision of an attorney and provides other paralegal/administrative support, as needed, to the Immigration Legal Services program. The position also works collaboratively with navigators to ensure clients are referred for holistic services as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Assist with the client intake process and general management of cases.



  • Work under the supervision of an attorney or Department of Justice (DOJ) Accredited Legal Representative in interviewing individuals seeking assistance with legal matters. When appropriate, draft and prepare legal documents, correspondence, and client applications.



  • Conduct legal research on various issues of immigration, criminal, or family law.



  • Refer individuals to navigators as appropriate and needed for provision of holistic services.



  • Maintain client records in accordance with agency and program policies.



  • Assist Director in compiling management reports and statistics.



  • Conduct community outreach relating to legal issues.



  • Assist with supervision of assigned interns/volunteers.



  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.




EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:




  • Law School Graduate/Soon to be Graduate and intention to take the bar exam.



  • One-year experience working in immigration or a related field.




SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:




  • Bilingual (Fluent in English and Spanish/French)



  • Written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills



  • Organizational skills and the ability to problem solve and adapt to changing priorities
