Position Overview:

Directs and coordinates activities concerned with production of company product(s) by directing Coaches and other support personnel. Directs bending operations for Knapheide products. Has full responsibility of safety, quality and productivity of bending operations for all three shifts.

Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Works closely with Materials Manager to ensure we keep assembly lines stocked with the correct parts. Uses Kan-Ban practices to monitor and control inventory.
  • Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
  • Must be a change agent by continually seeking improvement in the operations of the facility. Will support events that lead to improvement such as P4, PIP, and Kaizen improvement activities.
  • Confers with management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls and to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications and delivery dates of products ordered.
  • Responsible for establishing budget and execution to budget for assigned areas.
  • Establishes and monitors key performance metric for bending operations
  • Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance and operational reports to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines and equipment.
  • Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems.
  • Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure, operating problems or parts issues.
  • Must be or become familiar with press brake and panel bending practices.
  • Works closely with Design Engineering to assure there are manufacturability of designs.
  • Ensures all company policies such as Equal Employment Opportunities, Safety, Environmental, etc. are properly enforced.
  • Manages issues that arise in the workforce by facilitating employee meetings, promotes positive employee relations and communicates appropriate business information to departmental personnel.
  • Develops staffing and training plans for departments under his/her responsibility.
  • Monitors and ensures fair and consistent administration of the Labor Contract. Provide input for language changes for contract negotiations. Handles all grievances for the bending operation. Attends monthly Labor Management meetings.


Position Requirements:

Must have a minimum of ten years of progressive manufacturing experience. Work experience in a union operation is preferred but not required. An individual with a four-year college degree preferred but will consider relevant training and experience. Must have computer skills such as Word, Excel and other Microsoft products. The ability to analyze data, comprehend management reports, interpret blueprints and other production related data is required. Candidates will need to work extended hours into the evening or days and weekends as required. Must have excellent verbal communication skills as well as good written skills. A successful candidate must be a decision maker that can seek input and make knowledgeable decisions.

The individual is required to talk and hear and be able to sit, stand, walk, feel and handle. On occasion, will need to climb, reach, stoop, bend or kneel. Must be able to see products, processes, reports and other objects related to the manufacturing environment.
