Job Summary

In advance of the launch of the Intensive English Language Program (IELP), FGCU Global Engagement Office (GEO) invites applications from current FGCU faculty (including adjuncts) and staff who are qualified to teach English as a Second language (ESL) courses to adult, international students. This position is part-time working on campus, likely in the late afternoon or early evening hours.

Job Description

Typical duties include but not limited to:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning in an immersive English language classroom.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of approved learning materials.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Observe and monitor student's linguistic performance and development.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching and learning strategies.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to IELP Director, students, and colleagues regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as directed by IELP procedures.
  • Participate in department meetings and program assessments.

Other duties:

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in TESOL, English, Composition and Rhetoric, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching multilingual populations.
  • Fluent and able to teach in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MA or higher in TESOL, English, Composition and Rhetoric, or a related field.
  • Fluency in at least one language other than English.
  • Broad travel and/or living experience in a country outside of the U.S.

  • Demonstrate skills necessary to look at situations and processes critically to make recommendations for improvement.
