https://fulbright.uark.edu/departments/political-science Summary of Job Duties:The Department of Political Science in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in American Politics to start in August 2025. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.

We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching interests lie in public opinion, survey research, and the regional politics of the U.S. South. The expected teaching load will be two courses a semester and the successful candidate will work with the Blair Center of Southern Politics and Society.

This tenure-track Assistant Professor position entails conducting research leading to publication, engaging in creative and/or scholarly activities, designing graduate and undergraduate courses, developing and implementing new methods of teaching to reflect changes in the field, providing curriculum material, constructing syllabi, leading classroom instruction, writing and administering exams, mentoring and evaluating students, creating interest and understanding among students, serving on various faculty- and student-oriented committees, providing service on campus an in related professional organizations, and participating in faculty governance in the department and on campus.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate

  • A Ph.D. degree in Political Science or a related field with a specialization in public opinion and the US South from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment

  • A record of successful research and publication (e.g., journal articles published in reputable outlets)

  • A well-defined research agenda that employs survey research and examines the US South

  • Evidence of effective teaching (e.g., teaching evaluations, sample syllabus, teaching portfolio)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching

  • A demonstrated ability to teach an undergraduate course in American National Government, State and Local Politics, Campaigns and Elections, or similarly related topics

  • A demonstrated potential for publishing in top-tier outlets

  • Demonstrated experience in survey construction and methodology

  • A demonstrated commitment to graduate and undergraduate education and a willingness to contribute to our department's existing teaching strengths

  • A demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a student population from different backgrounds

  • Potential to secure external grant funding

  • A demonstrated commitment to active scholarly service
