Summary of Job Duties:The Mathematics Assistance Center is seeking to fill Extra Help Assistant - Tutor position(s). Under limited supervision, the Extra Help Assistant uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to teach Mathematics to students requiring in person private instruction, small group instruction, and online instruction as needed. Meets with students regularly to help improve understanding and grades. Instill confidence in students regarding their mathematical ability, develop study habits, techniques and plans for students. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Grade of "B" or better in at least one of the following courses: Discrete Mathematics, Introduction to Proof, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations, or equivalent coursework;

  • Working knowledge of Excel, Cengage and or Pearson platforms.

Preferred Education and or Experience:

  • Completed Calculus 3 with a grade of "B" or better.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for helping students understand new concepts, and completing assignments;

  • Perform front desk activities, including scheduling, record-keeping, and tutoring-coordination;

  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs, abilities and interests;

  • Work closely with other tutors in the Learning commons as well the director of MAC.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate assigned mathematical concepts and topics to a broad audience;

  • Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks;

  • Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions;

  • Providing students positive and constructive feedback;

  • Building meaningful connections with students from diverse backgrounds;

  • Instructing students both in person and over video chat;

  • Staying up to date with the school curriculum- Specifically Quantitative Literacy and College Algebra.
