JOB TITLE:

Director/Professor - Powell Research and Extension Center

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming invites applications for the Director of the Powell Research and Extension Center (PREC) near Powell, Wyoming. Position responsibilities will include administration, research, and extension.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervising PREC fiscal and physical operations and assisting PREC fulfill its research, outreach, and service mission
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of research projects at PREC relevant to the Big Horn Basin and the state of Wyoming, address producer concerns where feasible, conduct applied research and activities related to Wyoming Agriculture
  • Engage with the PREC Advisory Board, Community College representatives in the PREC service area, and economic development groups in the PREC service area
  • Lead strategic planning and ensure compliance and alignment with federal funding sources, such as, Hatch and Multi-state Hatch projects. Director will be responsible for maintaining a PREC Hatch project as well as participating in Multi-State Hatch projects.
  • Publish research results in appropriate, accessible formats, and ensure maintenance of the PREC website
  • Form collaborations with internal and external stakeholders and stakeholder groups, industry representatives, civic organizations, and other appropriate organizations and/or individuals necessary to accomplish the responsibilities.
  • Supervise PREC Farm manager(s), research associate(s), and accounting-clerical staff.
  • Coordinate with other UW faculty and collaborate with regional colleagues to ensure efficient and effective research and extension programs.
  • Interact with multiple academic departments, operational units, and administration across the college and university
  • Encourage faculty located on and off the University of Wyoming Campus to develop Research and Extension programs that benefit the Bighorn Basin and the state
  • Have a strong commitment to the mission of a land-grant institution.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Earned PhD in agriculture related field
  • Achieved rank of Associate or Full Professor, or equivalent, tenured not required.
  • Demonstrated Research and/or Extension experience in crop production and management
  • Experience in managing budgets, grants, people, and projects
  • Effective communication skills and an ability to communicate with diverse audiences
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, the land-grant university mission.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience and or knowledge of R and E Center operations
  • Experience with Plant/Crop Science Research, such as, soil fertility, plant pathology, entomology, plant breeding, variety evaluation and development, and/or weed science.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in extension or educational programming, delivering scientific content in an approachable manner
  • Evidence of ability to secure extramural funding to support applied research and extension programming
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in diverse and interdisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse groups through strategic planning and to carry those plans through to fruition
