Summary:

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) is seeking an Intermediate Database Specialist to join our team. This role is integral in supporting the Uniform Railroad Costing System (URCS), a critical tool used by the STB to estimate the variable costs associated with railroad movements. The successful candidate will manage, maintain, and optimize our databases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility to support the Board's regulatory and policy-making functions.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain and administer databases supporting the URCS, ensuring data accuracy, security, and availability.
  • Perform data analysis to support URCS functions, including data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, implementing best practices for indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.
  • Provide technical support for database-related issues, troubleshooting and resolving problems as they arise.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of database schemas, configurations, and procedures.
  • Ensure all database operations comply with relevant regulations and policies, including data privacy and security standards.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Must have problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, organization skills, and initiative, communication.
  • Familiarity with database performance tuning and optimization techniques.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in database management.
  • Pass a background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

The salary range for this position is $99,000.00 to $148,000.00 annually.
