Overview

Position Summary

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies to promote the Goldbelt Heritage Foundation's mission, programs, and initiatives. This role requires a strong understanding of Lingit cultures and communities, as well as experience in media relations, digital communications, and storytelling.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and execute the organization's communications plan, including media relations, social media, and digital marketing strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and journalists.
  • Write press releases, media advisories, and other communications materials.
  • Manage the organization's social media platforms and create engaging content.
  • Maintain the organization's website and other digital platforms.
  • Coordinate media interviews and speaking engagements for the Executive Director and other staff.
  • Monitor media coverage and generate media reports.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans.
  • Support fundraising and development efforts through effective communication.
  • Collaborate with program staff to develop communication materials for program initiatives.
  • Ensure that all communications align with the organization's mission and values.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related field. Six years of relevant work experience may substitute.
  • Experience in communications, public relations, or marketing.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and digital marketing tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Position will be exposed to multiple allergens including cedar and wool (sheep and mountain goat).
  • Must be willing to travel to local and regional events via plane, car, ferry, etc. as needed
  • Needs a valid AK driver's license
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures and communities preferred

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous media and communication practices.
  • Any level of fluency in Lingit preferred.

The salary for this position is $55,000 + DOE
