Summary:

Goldbelt C6, LLC is seeking an Environmental Engineer to support organizations to ensure the environment and the nation's seafood supply is safe, sanitary, and secure. The objective is to obtain engineering support to address pollution source impacts on shellfish and produce growing waters for safe consumption.

Essential Job Functions:

• Assist in providing the agency field offices, foreign governments, state and local governments, as well as industry with the highest level of technical expertise to protect public health and to maintain world leadership for the safety of shellfish and produce safety
• Assist in planning and development of field guidance, training, technical assistance, and technical auditing for the Agency's administration of the cooperative federal-state-industry National Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP) as well as technical assistance and research to support the OFS Division of Produce Safety (DPS).
• Assist with planning and conducting site-specific environmental sanitary surveys and investigations, including shoreline and growing area field studies, to identify and assess actual and potential pollution sources impacting shellfish growing areas for the purposes of classifying shellfish growing areas and managing shellfish harvest practices, according to NSSP criteria.
• Coordinate with and provide technical and research assistance for assessing pollution sources and microbiological hazard impacts to produce growing areas and irrigation waters to DPS.
• Assist with planning and conducting site-specific environmental investigations, including shoreline and growing area field studies, to identify and assess actual and potential pollution sources impacting shellfish growing areas.
• Assist with planning and conducting site-specific hydrographic field studies to track and determine the travel, dispersion, and dilution of wastewater effluents.
• Assists in determining the suitability and application of complex computer models such as three dimensional hydrodynamic estuarine models used for assessing shellfish growing area classification.
• Conduct geographic information system (GIS) analyses using ArcGIS and mobile GIS programs and assisting in the development of mobile GIS and GIS modeling applications.
• Assist with planning and conducting site-specific longitudinal produce field studies, to identify and assess actual and potential pollution sources impacting produce growing areas and growing waters.
• Assist with the development of models to assess the fate and transport of pollution sources and determine impact to shellfish and produce growing areas and critical water resources.
• Assists with interpretations of field investigation results and making science-based recommendations based on these findings.
• Provide general maintenance and upkeep of equipment used.
• Collect, analyze, and store all data from assigned projects.

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

• Requires expert knowledge and skills in engineering science, including basic engineering principles, theories, and practices relevant to hydrology or water and wastewater engineering.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master of Science in Engineering or related field with at least two (2) years of relevant experience.
• To be acceptable, the curriculum must be accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum or include differential and integral calculus and courses in five (5) of the following areas of engineering science:
  • Statics, Dynamics
  • Groundwater and Wells
  • Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, and Hydraulic systems
  • Hydrology
  • Water and Wastewater Engineering
  • Open Channel Hydraulics
  • And any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as soil mechanics, geology, or water resources.
• In lieu of meeting the specific educational requirements listed above, applicants may substitute college level education, training, and/or technical experience as demonstrated by:
  • Professional registration, or
  • Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional engineering registration; or
  • Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above
