Job Description

Position Title: Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Information Systems and Technology

The College of Business Administration (CoBA) at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) is seeking a Tenure Track Assistant Professor to join our collaborative and dedicated faculty in the department of Information Systems and Technology (IST). CoBA is accredited by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) in both business and accounting and its International Business program has been ranked in America's top 20 by U.S. News and World Report for 15 years running. Our graduate business program is ranked by Military Times among the top 25 "Best for Vets" programs.

The IST Department offers bachelor's and master's degrees in IST and Cybersecurity. Certificates and minors are also available. Courses are offered in both 100% online and in-person/hybrid modalities. The department currently serves more than 400 students across different program offerings. The department is part of the AACSB accredited College of Business Administration. Additionally, the department maintains a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity for Cyber Defense (NCAEC-CD) designation by the National Security Agency (NSA). The department and college offer excellent opportunities for cross-disciplinary research collaborations, professional development, and work-life balance in the vibrant community of St. Louis. In addition to strong research and teaching, faculty are expected to actively participate in mentoring students and providing career guidance. Faculty are expected to actively engage with current departmental student-facing activities and demonstrate initiative to create exciting learning and career-centered opportunities for students. College and University committees, task forces, and other activities for furthering UMSL's public land grant mission are also avenues for satisfying service expectations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Information Systems (IS) earned by August 2025 (at the latest).
  • A strong record of, or potential for, research, demonstrable through existing publications and a research pipeline. Areas of interest include broad topics related to Information Systems.
  • Experience teaching in both face-to-face and 100% online formats at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Teaching expertise in areas such as Systems Analysis and Design, Application Development, Cloud Computing, Business Analytics, Information Security Management, Information Security Risk Management, Information Systems Auditing, Secure Software Development, Cybersecurity Analytics, Threat Modelling and Analytics, or other Information Systems and/or Cybersecurity related topics.
  • Familiarity with the information systems ecosystem and workforce needs.
  • Have, or show potential to actively develop and maintain, industry contacts to better serve the IST students and their job placements.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Research expertise combining Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity in organizational contexts is particularly welcome.
  • Demonstrable potential to continue publishing in top-tier academic journals and to obtain and execute research grants from major funding sources such as the National Science Foundation, US Department of Defense, and others including industry.
  • Demonstrable record of incorporating applied/hands-on learning experiences into Information Systems and/or Cybersecurity related courses.
  • Experience and established ties with industry.

Application Deadline

Review of applications will begin August 30th, 2024, and continue until the position is filled. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed via video conference in early September followed by a second round of interviews in mid to late September. The final group of candidates will be invited for Campus Visit in mid to late October 2024, before an offer is made. Candidates must be able to attend the campus visit, in person. Job Start date: August 1, 2025.
