DEA's Transportation team is hiring for a National Transit Engineering Practice Leader and Senior Project Manager. Position responsibilities will be diverse and will include working across markets leading the firm-wide transit engineering practice. This role will build and enhance the skills and capabilities of the transit engineering team. They will work closely with DEA's broader / company-wide Transit and Rail team, delivery teams, and Group Leaders to build backlog and balance workload across markets. You will lead the national branding effort for transit engineering, assessing areas of best practice and technology trends, and contributing substantially to business development strategy and pursuits across markets. This position can be located in California, Washington, or Oregon. Practice Leader Responsibilities:
- Responsible for our transit engineering practice, working in parallel with the FTA Program Management Leader, the Freight Rail Leaders, and the National Transit Planning Practice leader
- Make recommendations to the Transit and Rail Practice Leader on entering/exiting markets, strategic investments, and staff performance and compensation decisions. Assess technical skills and capabilities.
- Responsible, within the Transit and Rail Practice, for supporting transit engineering branding efforts including national and regional conferences, development of papers/presentations, etc.
- Supervise and manage the performance of staff and the Group Leaders
- Make timely decisions on hiring, promoting, and terminating project delivery staff
- Responsible for successful recruitment and retention efforts in their practice area
- Assess practice area technology needs and trends and make recommendations
- Serve as the principal in charge/project manager/task leader, as needed
- Maintain a skills inventory including certifications, licenses, health and safety, etc.
- Seek and support workshare opportunities moving resources between projects, as needed
- Responsible for short and long-term workload leveling and forecasting
Project Manager Responsibilities:
- Ensure excellence in project execution for on-time, on-budget deliverables of quality that meet or exceed the industry's standard of care
- Working with the Transit and Rail Group, the Regional Transportation Group, and Delivery Leaders to ensure office resources are available to complete existing project work as well as work committed to in proposals
- Provide design leadership and guidance to staff. Review engineering documents and deliverables for compliance with contractual and professional requirements as part of DEA's Quality Management requirements
- Adhere to firmwide tools, processes, and policies including project accounting (set up, budgeting, etc.), contracting, and quality requirements.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineering License
- 20+ years of Transportation experience with a majority in rail transit projects
- Experience managing large engineering teams

- Anticipated salary range for this position is $200,000-$300,000 depending on location and experience
