California Land Development Market Leader

(DEA) is seeking a results-driven California Land Development Market Leader to oversee our regional sales performance and drive growth within the Land Development Business Unit. As a top-ranked consulting design firm with over 48 years of experience, DEA is committed to enhancing quality of life through responsible land development practices.

Job Overview: In this role, you will have ongoing regional leadership responsibility for the sales performance and growth of DEA's Land Development practice in California. Your focus will be on securing new business, managing key client relationships, and building a strong pipeline of opportunities while ensuring the technical excellence of project delivery. You will lead a multidisciplinary team and align efforts with DEA's strategic growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
Sales and Client Growth:


  • Drive the sales performance of DEA's Land Development Business Unit, ensuring the achievement of sales targets for new work and backlog growth.





  • Serve as Client Leader for key clients, building and nurturing long-term relationships that drive revenue and enhance DEA's market share in California.





  • Lead the California Regional Client Leaders team, supporting strategic client relationships and ensuring alignment with business objectives.





  • Secure new business and expand DEA's Areas of Practice within the California market, working closely with clients to understand their evolving needs.



Strategic Leadership:


  • Develop and implement strategic plans to ensure sustainable revenue growth and align with DEA's overall business objectives.





  • Provide leadership to the Delivery Leader and Client Leaders, ensuring their development and mentoring to support business success.





  • Build effective relationships with internal support managers (e.g., Finance, IT, People, Marketing) and foster collaboration across DEA's business units.



Project Management and Technical Expertise:


  • Oversee the planning, design, and execution of large-scale land development projects, ensuring compliance with California's regulatory frameworks (e.g., CEQA, NEPA).





  • Ensure the technical soundness of work produced by your teams, maintaining high standards of quality and client satisfaction.



Cultural and Team Leadership:


  • Uphold DEA's cultural drivers and values, fostering a strong team culture that prioritizes safety, collaboration, and innovation.





  • Mentor and develop a team of engineers, planners, and project managers, promoting professional growth and high standards of performance.





  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and ensure effective communication across the team to drive success.



Financial and Forecasting:


  • Accurately forecast market growth and ensure the 12-month rolling pipeline reflects sustainable opportunities.





  • Provide regular updates to senior management on market conditions, financial performance, and strategic growth initiatives.



Results and Performance Measures:


  • Achieve regional sales goals and ensure client satisfaction through timely, high-quality project delivery.





  • Grow market share in the California region while maintaining strong client relationships.





  • Ensure accurate market and growth forecasting to support DEA's overall business strategy.





  • Promote low staff turnover and ensure effective internal communication.



Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field; a Professional Engineer (PE) license in California is preferred.





  • 15+ years of experience in civil engineering, land development, or construction management, with a proven track record of leading large, complex projects in California.





  • Strong technical knowledge in civil engineering design, stormwater management, grading, and regulatory compliance.





  • Exceptional sales and business development expertise, with the ability to secure new work, build client relationships, and meet financial targets.





  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing and mentoring multidisciplinary teams.
