Do you want to be part of a fast-growing team? If so, DEA's Puget Sound team is looking for a Transit and Rail Planner. The responsibilities for this position will be diverse and will include working across the firm in our Transit and Rail Planning group. You will be part of our Transportation Business Unit's Transit and Rail (TaR) Practice. As such, you will build and enhance the skills and capabilities of the transit and rail planning team. This position can be located in our Puget Sound, Salt Lake City, UT or Portland, OR offices.

Planning Responsibilities:



  • Perform creative work which involves both conventional and unconventional types of planning, investigations, surveys, sometimes with complex features for which there may be no precedents.
  • Analyze land use, equity, transit and rail services, and mobility issues in metro and statewide regions.
  • Familiar with transit and rail planning, terminology, and support systems
  • Support development of planning and environmental documentation
  • Support public and community outreach efforts, including meeting with client staff and leadership, public agency staff and leadership, and the general public.
  • Meet with reviewers to obtain project approvals/permits and coordinate plan changes with project managers.
  • Prepare policy and regulation language on behalf of public and private sector clients.
  • Identify planning strategies to help DEA's client assess projects and scenarios.
  • Responsible for presentations and public facilitation.
  • Work directly with potential and current clients to solicit and assess rail, transit, and multimodal transportation planning needs.
  • Assist with discretionary grant applications for project funding.
  • Prepare fee proposals, develop work plans, and coordinate planning efforts to support project management.
  • Other duties as required.



Basic Qualifications:



  • 3+ years working with a local and/or regional transit agency, or railroad
  • 3+ years' experience with Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, and Replica, Remix or similar software
  • Ability to communicate and work in a team-oriented environment across geographies
  • College degree in Geography, Planning, Public Administration, Economics, or related field



Desirable Qualifications:



  • 3+ years of applicable project experience with NEPA and planning associated with transportation projects
  • 2+ years experience and familiarity with ESRI ARCGIS Pro
  • 1+ year of experience with Rail Traffic Controller software
  • Master's degree in urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Economics, or related fields

  • Anticipated salary range for this position is $80,000-$110,000 depending on location and experience
