DEA's is hiring for a full-time Transportation/Traffic Engineer in our Smart Mobility Practice (Traffic Design Team) working on a variety of traffic engineering design and transportation analysis projects. As a traffic engineer in the Oregon Smart Mobility group this position will serve as a technical expert for traffic design tasks on transportation projects that may involve traffic signals, signing, striping, temporary traffic control, illumination, and ITS communications. Expertise in transportation analysis is also desired, but not required. The position will have the opportunity to be a project task lead and mentor junior staff. This position will support work in the Oregon Smart Mobility group in Portland and Salem, OR. Working a hybrid schedule or from another DEA office may be considered.

Responsibilities will be diverse and include but are not limited to, the following:



  • Managing traffic design tasks or projects of varying degrees including scope, schedule, budget, QC and financial management
  • Overseeing, designing, or reviewing the design plans, specifications and estimates (PSE&E) and serving as the engineer of record for traffic design aspects of projects
  • Building relationships with clients and peers in the industry
  • Mentoring and training junior staff
  • Traffic engineering design (signing and striping, signals, temporary traffic control)
  • Illumination design
  • ITS design
  • Transportation operations analysis and planning support
  • Serving as Project Manager for traffic design focused projects
  • Serving as Deputy PM or Task Lead on larger multi-discipline projects
  • Pursuing additional growth opportunities in project management, business development and professional thought leadership
  • Opportunities to collaborate across DEA's diverse business units, markets and technical practices.



General Qualifications:




    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
    • Licensed Professional Engineer in Oregon (or the ability to obtain it within 1 year)
    • 5 plus years of professional engineering experience including traffic engineering design
    • Good communication skills (written and oral)
    • Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
    • Desire to work in the Traffic Engineering field



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with design software such as MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Experience leading project teams and/or tasks
  • Experience or ability to train others in fundamentals of traffic design tasks
  • Strong desire to learn



Desired Qualifications



  • Proficient in traffic signals or ITS design
  • Experience with InRoads, Civil 3D, Guide Sign, Agi32, Infraworks, ConceptStation, etc.
  • Familiarity with traffic operations and safety software and tools such as the Highway Capacity Software, Synchro, Sidra, and safety evaluations tools such IHSDM and ISATe safety evaluation tools

  • Anticipated salary range for this position is $80,000 - $135,000 and is based on applicable experience
