About the Role:

This role will reside in Lima, Ohio at JSMC

This role is for a production / design Engineer with a focus on supporting design for manufacturing (DFM) across an array of one of our signature platform vehicle and other products that GDLS produces. The job is located at the Lima Tank Plant in Lima, Ohio (JSMC - Joint Systems Manufacture Center) but will report up through the GDLS Design & Development Engineering (DDE) organization in Sterling Heights, Michigan as part of the broader Division activities.

The Production Liaison Engineer will reside at the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center in Lima, OH for a period of 3 or more years and report to the Engineering Manager at the facility. They will serve as a product representative for various combat vehicle programs and be a technical liaison to government representatives, JSMC leadership, and Sterling Heights engineering functions.

After 3 or more years at JSMC, there will be the option to continue working at JSMC (Lima, OH) or there may be the possibility to relocate to GDLS in Sterling Heights, MI and as a product design engineer. The lessons learned at JSMC will be leveraged to aid the design community to develop new products.

    Responsibilities to Anticipate/Expect:
    • Serve as a productrepresentativeforvariouscombatvehicle programs and be atechnical liaison to government representatives, outside engineering functions.
    • Conduct failure analysis and corrective action along with responsible for technical writing and presentations.
    • Technical Data Package interpretation and clarification
    • Coordinate design changes and implementationthroughout the change process.
    • Will support the principal engineers to assist manufacturingproductionthrough problem report resolution.
    • Perform root cause and corrective action activitiesfor drawing and TDP quality improvements.
    • Assist in design functions with other dedicated design departments within the organization.
    • Supports and helps develop and integratecomponents into vehicle platforms to meet vehicle performance requirements including human factors, safety, environmental, ballistic and mine blast requirements.
    • Conducts design, integration and analysis of components and subsystems.
    • Applies engineering analytical skill sets for design.
    • Supports various projects by doing analysis and design, drawing mark-ups, and generating source data for engineering changes.
    • Responsible for writing material requests and shop work requests, track delivery and stock of parts, participate in integration reviews, fit checks, and write reports.
    • Provides support to prototype and production vehicle build and follow-up, technical corrective action formulation, troubleshooting and redesign activities.
    • Works closely with design team, lead engineers and site engineering manager on all functions.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications / What you must have:
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Systems, Manufacturing Technology or related discipline)
    • 5-7 years of experience in a related role desired
    • Experience in an engineering role that worked with Combat Vehicle platforms, heavy equipment or industrial design desired.
    • Demonstrated understanding of engineering principals in chosen expertise (i.e. structures, powertrain, etc...)
    • Experience supporting prototype and/or production build activities
    • Experience with root cause and corrective activities
    • Solid modeling experience with NX and Creo
    • Experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup a plus
    • This role will require the candidate to work well in a team environment as well as individual contributor.
    • Be able to multi-task on simultaneous development projects, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and mission scope
    • Good time management skills required
    • Have a proactive attitude and enjoy working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation, and people skills required. This role will interact with customer representatives (DoD) as well as other cross functional areas/levels of GDLS representatives.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Products required.

        • This position may require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance)
        • This role/employee will reside in Lima, Ohio at JMSC for a minimum of 3 years.
        • Limited travel maybe required including foreign travel if needed, up to 10%
        • Must be able to work occasional evening and/or weekend overtime as required.
