The Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Cancer Biology of Thomas Jefferson University is recruiting to fill the position of Director, Division of Cancer Biology. The successful candidate for this new position will join the senior leadership in the department. The department, comprising the divisions of Pharmacology and Physiology, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, and Cancer Biology, ranks 24th of 89 Pharmacology departments in the nation by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The department, and its Division of Cancer Biology, is one of the three key departments, including Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology, forming the foundation for the NCI-designated Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center of Thomas Jefferson University. Currently, the Division of Cancer Biology comprises 13 laboratory-based tenure-track faculty with expertise across disease sites, including breast, prostate, colorectum, melanoma, and hematological malignancies, and molecular mechanisms including cell signaling, epithelial-mesenchymal interactions, mechanisms underlying metastases, extracellular vesicles, and genomic and epigenomic re-programming. There are close and productive interactions with clinical and translational investigators in the Departments of Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Surgery. The division is supported by $7M total annual grant funding, $5M of which is NIH funding. The division is home to two Centers of Excellence in Blood Cancer and Melanoma, two NIH-funded training grants, and the Doctoral Program in Genetics, Genomics, and Cancer Biology, one of six doctoral programs in the Jefferson College of Life Sciences. The new Division Director will assume a leadership position within the department, joining the Executive Committee which includes the Chair, Vice-Chair, Directors of the Divisions of Pharmacology and Physiology and Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, the Deputy Director of the Cancer Center (ex officio) and departmental administrative leadership (ex officio). They will be named as the Hilary Koprowski Professor in Cancer Biology, which is an endowed professorship.
