Chair, Department of Obstetrics Gynecology at Thomas Jefferson University and Clinical Leader, OBGYN Enterprise Service Line for Jefferson Health

Thomas Jefferson University seeks a visionary and collaborative academic physician leader to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Obstetrics amp; Gynecology in its Sidney Kimmel Medical College and as the Clinical Leader of the OBGYN Enterprise Service Line at Jefferson Health, a footprint that includes 5 Lamp;D units and 33 practice locations, collectively responsible for over 13,000 deliveries and nearly 300,000 patient visits each year across Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.

Reporting to the Dean of Sidney Kimmel Medical College, the Chair serves as the academic and administrative leader for the Department and its 33 full-time faculty physicians and 31 advanced practice providers, ensuring coverage of clinical needs at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and 4 faculty practice locations. The Chair will be a relationship-based leader capable of recruiting and empowering a diverse faculty and promoting accountability to develop the Departmentrsquo;s future leaders, while also advancing the departmentrsquo;s residency and fellowship programs and facilitating the expansion of its clinical research portfolio.

Reporting to the President of the Jefferson Medical Group at Jefferson Health, the Clinical Leader of the OBGYN Enterprise Service Line will serve as the strategic lead in redesigning care delivery that streamlines efficiency to improve clinical quality and patient outcomes. The Clinical Leader will provide strategic advisement regarding physician recruitment, retention, and workforce planning initiatives in addition to playing a lead role in expanding clinical research offerings and education programs in concert with clinical partners across Jefferson Healthrsquo;s three operating regions.

The Clinical Leader will work in tandem with an executive-level administrative dyad partner to advance the OBGYN Enterprise Service Line towards Jeffersonrsquo;s mission of becoming a fully integrated academic health system. Driving this level of harmonization and transformation across a large, matrixed health system within a shared leadership model will require a Clinical Leader adept at fostering collaboration and coalescing support around collective value, while driving accountability for meeting performance metrics at the regional level through closely partnering with regional CMOs.

This position will be responsible for developing strategy, guiding innovation, overseeing implementation, and driving accountability and overall progress towards a transformational and shared vision for how Jefferson OBGYN delivers care, educates, and promotes health equity in strategic and sustainable ways that serve the changing needs of our patients, our learners, and our communities.

Requirements for this position include an MD/DO or equivalent international degree, current board certification in Obstetrics amp; Gynecology, and eligibility to practice in the state of Pennsylvania. Candidates must have academic achievements commensurate with appointment as an associate or full professor level at Sidney Kimmel Medical College.

The successful candidate will have:

  • At least 5 years of clinical operations leadership experience, ideally gained within a large healthcare system, as well as an academic career trajectory with increasing levels of administrative responsibilities, ideally culminating in serving as Chair, Vice Chair, or Division Director of an OBGYN Department.
  • A strong record of cultivating academic-clinical partnerships, program development, and educational training programs.
  • Experience with the operational and financial management of administering a department, including prior budget management responsibility, strategic planning, and resource management.
  • Experience facilitating and promoting clinical research.
