Administrative Supervisor PRN- Methodist

The Administrative Supervisor positon is per diem at Methodist Hospital. 12 hour shift day and night rotation. Minimum of three shifts in a six week schedule.

Management function: This includes executing specific goals and actions around planned change and organizing patient care delivery. This involves appropriately assisting with staffing functions which might involve participation with recruiting, interviewing and orienting staff, staff development, and team building functions. The supervisor also aids the manager in areas such as managing conflict, disciplinary action, delegating, communicating and facilitating collaboration; controlling which includes performance reviews, fiscal responsibility, quality control, legal and ethical control and professional and collegial control.

Leadership role: The supervisor is expected to demonstrate abilities to listen and understand staff in genuine ways which promote their autonomy, decision making and delegation skills. This includes keeping an open mind without judgment, dealing with ambiguity, paradoxes and complex issues, honestly sharing critical challenges with all. In addition, this involves clearly articulating quality goals and outcomes.

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:

  1. Facilitates reporting structures for effective communication among shifts.
  2. Assures that patient care is provided based on nursing and rehabilitation theories and Joint Commission and CARF standards with the goal of restoration of health and function.
  3. Monitors quality of nursing care delivery. This is accomplished by assuring that the safety and well being of patient population and staff through consistent diligent evaluation of patient care needs and safety measures and staff assignments.
  4. Assures that nurse rounding and bedside report are completed on a consistent basis. This includes rounding with the nurses as well visiting with patients to assure their satisfaction with nursing care.

  6. Responsible for communication with clinical nurse managers and nursing support services coordinator regarding staffing based on approved staffing matrix.
  7. Contributes positively to promote recognition and reward to those led by acknowledging staff of excellence through thank you cards and other recognition program initiatives.
  8. Initiates disciplinary action as needed and documents occurrences and submits to nurse manager.
  9. Assesses and audits designated nursing measures and makes appropriate changes based on results that are action oriented.
  10. Completes communication reports to designated groups following required content.
  11. Completes performance reviews as delegated in a timely manner.
  12. Adjusts staffing based on census, sound clinical and satisfactory financial parameters.
  13. Applies staffing processes and protocols into automated scheduling system.
  14. Contributes positively to promote recognition and reward to those led by acknowledging staff of excellence through thank you cards and other recognition program initiative

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists the Nurse Educator in completion of competency evaluation documents completed during orientation.
  2. Assists with direct patient care as needed.
  3. Functions as a liaison and contact to various clinical practices, i.e., critical labs, PICC lines, specific lab draws, etc.
  4. Leads all emergency situations.
  5. Completes and submit a supervisory report to designated staff.
  6. Assists in review/recommendation of products on the nursing unit.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

  1. Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  2. Bachelor of Science in nursing required or current enrollment in a BSN program.

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. Current licensure as a Professional Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for a minimum of 2 years required, 5 years preferred.
  2. Certified in Rehabilitation Nursing preferred. CRRN required when eligible within one year of appointment.
  3. Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (BCLS) required and ACLS (ACLS certification should be obtained within 6 months of employment.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum of two years experience as an RN practicing in an acute rehab or hospital setting within the last 3 years of application.

2.Nursing management experience preferred. This experience can be either cumulative in a similar position or related positions such as relief or interim supervisor, charge nurse roles.
