GENERAL FUNCTION

The R&D Design Engineer is a member of the team that creates and delivers brand-relevant technologies to the Product Roadmap. R&D's core role is innovation through timely creation of technologies with meaningful consumer benefits. This position emphasizes mechanical, structural, chemical, and optical development through rapid iteration, to support product level initiatives.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Serves as a core executional element of the R&D team, relied upon for conceptualization and technical execution
  • Functions as a primary member of a cross-functional team
  • Responsible for mechanical, structural, chemical, and optical engineering of new products
  • Develops new technologies, in line with feature, performance and cost specifications
  • Executes improvements to legacy products
  • Maintains project progress by completion of engineering tasks to published timeline
  • Tests performance improvements through application of the scientific method
  • Working focus is on execution of underlying tasks within a project
  • Primary cross functional partners include ID, Engineering and Vision Performance Lab
  • Tracks assignment progress through reporting manager
  • Operates with technical and scheduling direction from senior staff


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • BS in Material Science, Chemical Engineering or similar
  • 3+ years of engineering experience
  • Material sampling, lab experimentation and validation testing experience
  • Familiarity with polymers, plastics processing and injection molding
  • Rapid prototyping/additive manufacturing methods
  • Experience conducting physical testing and sample evaluation
  • Hands-on fabrication of prototypes for testing and user feedback
  • Computer skills including Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Word
  • Imaginative outside the box thinker with a history of problem solving
  • Simple and Fast approach to innovating, fail fast- learn faster
  • Technical leadership and strong collaboration in cross functional teams
  • Strong organizational, people, verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-starter with high attention to detail
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, domestic and international


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • MS in Material Science, Chemical Engineering or similar
  • Knowledge of optics
  • Multi-industry experience, with a focus in consumer products
  • Material and chemistry involvement beyond polymers
  • Additional processing experience beyond injection molding
  • Thin film deposition and applications familiarity
  • Practical knowledge of wearable electronics product design
  • Design of Experiment construction and execution
  • Use of JMP or similar statistical analysis software
  • Experience with MatLab/Mathmatica or similar software
  • Experience conducting physical testing and sample evaluation
  • Field testing with end-users in various environments
  • Entrepreneurial spirit through constant progression and improvement
  • Passion for and participation in our core sports

Pay Range: 83,614.94-120,876.28

Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements. In addition, you may also be offered a competitive bonus and/or commission plan, which complements a first-class total rewards package.
