Job Summary

Oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operations relating to the Art + Art History 3D/Sculpture and Ceramics areas. Repairs and maintains equipment and machinery. Provides support with use of machinery, tools, and equipment to faculty and students. Oversees and maintains the 3D/Sculpture and Ceramics physical facility on a daily basis. Serves as safety officer.

  • Oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operations relating to the 3D/Sculpture and Ceramics areas. Repairs and maintains equipment and machinery. Provides support with use of machinery, tools, and equipment to faculty and students. Assists with day-to-day management of any additional department spaces without a dedicated lab manager, as needed.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the physical 3D/Sculpture and Ceramics facilities, including reporting any necessary facility deficiencies to Facilities Work Management and the CARTA Director of Operations. This includes proper function of all facility entries and exits, lighting, equipment safety, and cleanliness.
  • Serves as safety officer as liaison with FIU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). Implements policies and procedures relating to health, life, and safety in the studio and associated spaces, in accordance with FIU EHS policies. Completes annual EHS Lab Self Audit for 3D/Sculpture and Ceramics studios and assists with EHS Lab Self Audit for any additional department spaces without a dedicated lab manager, as needed.
  • Develops equipment use procedures. Provides safety trainings. Maintains safety training logs. Provides technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students. Conducts equipment demonstrations with faculty and students. Instructs and leads in-class trainings and demonstrations.
  • Supervises Student Safety Officers, manages schedules and duties. Maintains a master calendar for shop use. Tracks statistics of shop use. Reevaluates the most effective use of space and time within the 3D/Sculpture and Ceramics facilities.
  • Conducts inventory on a quarterly basis and maintains stock of required machinery parts and materials. Coordinates with the department purchaser to order materials, equipment, and parts for 3D/Sculpture and Ceramics machinery and equipment.
  • Creates, administers, and manages a tool lockup checkout system. Maintains machine shop equipment and tools by performing preventive maintenance. Troubleshoots tool and machinery malfunctions in a timely manner. Creates a system to report tool and machinery issues to be resolved.
  • Requests quotes, prepares requisitions, track purchases, inventory and expenses, receives and processes orders. Maintains financial records, processes request, invoices, budget requisitions, purchase orders, and credit card purchases. Serves as a University card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University credit card policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma and seven (7) years of related experience or Associate's and five (5) years of related experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience maintaining and repairing ceramics machinery, including electric and gas kilns, clay mixers, potter's wheels, slab rollers, and related hand tools.
