Job Summary

The Latin American & Caribbean Center (LACC) is recruiting a student to join their team of professionals by greeting visitors to the Center, fielding telephone calls, receiving and delivering mail. This position will be required to assist with the promotion, coordination, reservations and follow-ups for various events organized every month, such as conferences, symposium, lectures and other events, as well as initiating and completing projects related to alumni, consuls, embassies, faculty and other listservs/lists.

Duties include:

  • Greet all LACC visitors in a professional manner and provide them with program information and direct them accordingly
  • Answer phone calls and direct callers to the appropriate party
  • Process, sort, and route incoming and outgoing mail
  • Monitor and manage inventory of office supplies; assist with the order and distribution of office supplies as necessary
  • Monitor and respond to several departmental emails ensuring all emails are responded or forwarded to the appropriate person and/or department.
  • Create and distribute event flyers following SIPA guidelines. Collaborate with Program Manager on promotional materials and social media activity for the department
  • Serve as LACC liaison with UTS to resolve any technical issues with computers, printers, Toshiba machine, etc. in the entire office
  • Creation of LACC approved course list for Undergraduate and Graduate students every semester used to advise students
  • Perform other administrative support tasks, including updating and sorting files, drafting and proofreading correspondence and invitation letters
  • Assist with all FMI/ FCI program materials and applications
  • Exhibited a high degree of discretion related to safeguarding confidential information.
  • Maintain status reports to provide management with updated information on appointed projects.
  • Overseeing the availability of the department conference room which hosts small events, faculty meetings, and academic course meetings.

Who May Apply

  • Students enrolled at FIU, who have been awarded Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their Financial Aid Award package.
  • Student must be enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours in a course of study leading to a degree or a Financial Aid eligible certificate, during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
  • Upon credits decreasing, award being canceled, or graduating, FWS employment must end.
Work Schedule

Hours will vary based on class schedule and needs of the department.
