Job Summary

Ensures that the University's computer equipment is configured to conform to FIU's established guidelines. Maintains FIU owned computers for Faculty and staff including local and network printers, desktop computer, departmental laptops, mobile devices and their supported software. Repairs equipment malfunctions and provides technical support at an onsite location.

  • Provides hands-on desk-side quality support for faculty and administrator to resolve technology related problems and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures technical requirements are properly integrated with existing processes.
  • Writes functional and technical documents and specifications.
  • Creates and documents training resources and documentation as needed.
  • Utilizes remote assistance software for troubleshooting and resolving issues as needed.
  • Works closely with internal departments to resolve issues that may affect technology infrastructure.
  • Collaborates with other IT members outside of the division to ensure all technology related access and support software is operational.
  • Manages moderate to complex troubleshooting for Windows/Mac OS including Division of IT supported Software.
  • Evaluates equipment, components and software for use in a moderately complex technology system.
  • Designs, develops, tests, debugs, installs, maintains, implements, modifies and supports new or existing applications in accordance with standard practices.
  • Maintains familiarity with installed software standards and procedures and provides technical guidance to staff.
  • Serves as source of information on trends, research, applications, products and effective practices related to technology use for implementation.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technology field and two (2) years of experience in the field; OR six (6) years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge with client and server side best practices for operating system management and redundancy, utilizing Microsoft.
  • Customer service experience.
