Job Summary

Assists Campus Life leadership with supporting the programmatic needs of the department Provides advising and organizational support for FIU's Homecoming Council and other spirit initiatives. Coordinates and supports programmatic and event at Modesto Maidique (MMC), Biscayne Bay (BBC), Engineering (EC), and FIU @ I-75 campuses as appropriate. Assists student leaders in the development and presentation of an annual budget request, assists with risk management issues, and supporting/advising student and/or professional staff as needed. Assists with Campus Life departmental events and provides administrative and operational support including marketing through social media.

  • Oversees the programmatic and budgetary efforts of the Homecoming Council in event planning and logistics and provides operational support for events taking place at any of the FIU campuses.
  • Provides advising and organizational support for FIU's Homecoming Council and other spirit initiatives and agencies/boroughs, such as Panther Power.
  • Assists Associate Director in development of A&S programming budget requests as needed.
  • Negotiates and initiates vendor contracts for programs sponsored or supported by Campus Life and other student-led agencies/bureaus as needed.
  • Assists with Campus Life major programs and events, including communication and coordination of logistical matters with vendors, assistance with risk management issues, and supporting/advising student and/or professional staff as needed.
  • Trains and supervises graduate assistants, practicum students, interns, and/or temporary program assistants.
  • Evaluates programs and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Assists student groups in purchasing event supplies. This includes use of the university commodity card and the financial e-procurement system. Ensuring compliance with funding source and regulations per university.
  • Will have access to a third-party system (software, gateway, etc.) that processes, transmits, and/or stores cardholder information.
  • Attends appropriate national or local conferences and/or other professional development programs to stay abreast of best practices.
  • Represents the University on various committees and/or associations. Attends regular student leadership meetings/retreats, and departmental staff meetings as assigned and approved by the leadership.
  • Assists with Campus Life departmental events and provides administrative support including marketing through social media.
  • Interprets and communicates Campus Life policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal, State, local, and University.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of office or related experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Prior experience with event planning and execution.
