Job Summary

Responsible for skilled maintenance work on irrigation systems, turf management, and semi-skilled ground maintenance

  • Assists in providing high level care of athletic playing field and surrounding areas requiring specialized techniques and equipment. Maintains athletic playing fields irrigation systems. Operates small tractors, backhoe, turf vacuum sweeper, hydraulic sprayer, fertilizer equipment, riding mowers and edger's, rototillers aerators, Cushman and pick-up truck in the maintenance of these athletic playing fields and the surrounding grounds as needed.
  • Uses various power tools, such as chain saw, radial saw, grinding machines, drills, weed eaters, blowers, electric hand saws, and other equipment to complete work assigned. Operates motor vehicles to transport materials and equipment needed to perform the job tasks assigned to this position.
  • Performs general emergency maintenance duties connected to any and all aspects of related work such as required by the Facilities Management/Operations supervision. This may include such items as hurricane protection, broken road signs, repairing leaks on a permanent or temporary basis and other duties as required.
  • Assists in the planning and in the arrangements for special needs university events; assists in the preparation, delivery and maintenance of interior plants as needs arise and in the shade house maintenance; Assists with special projects assigned to Athletic Grounds personnel and performs other duties and tasks related to University Operations or requirements as may be required by Facilities Management administration and other University administrators.
  • Performs essential duties during any emergencies, such as hurricanes, storms, public health emergencies, and/or any other University emergency closings. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during University emergency closings with appropriate notification by department administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of the ninth (9th) grade and two (2) years of lawn sprinkler repair work experience; or any equivalent combination of related work experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License CDL - Class E
Desired Qualifications

  • Golf course maintenance (or) Athletic field maintenance (or) landscaping maintenance experience.
  • Experience driving manual shift-type equipment (i.e. tractors).
