Job Summary

The Student Access and Success (SAS) department is seeking a Student Mentor/Tutor to join their team of professionals for their Student Support Services (SSS) program. Duties include:

* Assists students with their requested subject area.
* Assists staff duties related to the efficient functioning of the Student Support Services (SSS) program office.
* Prepares tutorial reports and assist with marketing strategies.
* Serves as mentors to lower division students connecting on a bi-weekly basis to discuss college related challenges and concerns.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires prior completion of FIU Service Excellence training or completion within first 30 days.
  • Customer service knowledge
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Basic level of Microsoft Word.
  • None to basic Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to take direction and work independently as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.
Desired Qualifications

* A 3.0 or higher GPA with proficiency in subject area in which one is tutoring (i.e. Sciences, Math, and English).
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong organizational and customer service skills.

Student Disclosure

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
Work Schedule

  • Hours will vay based on class schedule and needs of the department.
  • 20 hours a week.
Advertised Salary

$13.50/hour
