Job Summary

Oversees the day-to-day activities of the Advance Materials Engineering Research Institute (AMERI) laboratory and ensures that Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) practices are followed throughout the facility by implementing training programs and overseeing record and log maintenance. Operate and maintain cleanroom equipment and assist the analytical facility in maintaining equipment including but not limited to X-ray Diffractometer, Atomic Force Microscope, and electron microscopes. Assist users in training and troubleshooting equipment while maintaining a clean and organized workspace ensuring safety laboratory procedures.

  • Performs maintenance, repair, and calibration of analytical and nanofabrication equipment for functionality; addresses equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime. Schedules regular equipment maintenance.
  • Enforces safety protocols, ensuring that all users adhere to safety rules. Ensures EH&S practices are followed throughout the facility by implementing a training program, documenting standard operating procedures, and overseeing record and equipment log maintenance.
  • May supervise student assistants, organize their work schedules, and train them as necessary.
  • Trains new users on equipment operation and enforces SOPs.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, researchers, and management regarding lab activities, challenges, and achievements.
  • Assist in the interpretation and implementation of federal, state, and local policies as they relate to laboratory procedures and protocol. Implements and interprets operating procedures and analytical methods. Coordinates with Facilities Management in the handling of hazardous waste removal and chemical inventory. Maintains records of experiments, processes, and equipment maintenance activities.
  • Work with all other staff personnel in AMERI as needed and provide support as needed on other AMERI operations.
  • Oversees the day-to-day activities of AMERI laboratory. Implements and interprets operating procedures and analytical methods. Oversees the operational readiness of equipment and instruments in the AMERI analytical and processing laboratories.
  • Attends weekly staff meetings and reports operational status to the Director
  • Provide support for various materials characterization instruments including but not limited to X-ray Diffractometer, Atomic Force Microscope, Energy Dispersion Spectroscopy, and Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Performs sample preparation when needed.
  • Maintains lab organization and effectiveness and promotes adherence to policies by lab users. Maintains and repairs scientific equipment in AMERI laboratories as needed
  • Operates Scanning Electron Microscope to obtain images for researchers and provide analysis
  • Write lab analysis reports on research findings. Analyzes and organizes results of experiments and fieldwork. Report timely to supervisor on assigned tasks.
  • Supports research personnel in the design, execution, and analysis of scientific projects. Assist in the development of scopes of work including budgets and schedules..
  • Works closely with the Building Operations Coordinator and Associate Director of Building Operations & Safety to ensure EH&S compliance.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree.

Experience in a research laboratory environment.
