Preferred work hours would be Friday mornings (8a.m.- 12p.m.) and Monday afternoons 1:30p.m. - 5:30p.m. The Mondays would start in November.

Under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Healthcare Pathway, supervises the Dental Hygiene Clinic as assigned, and assumes responsibility for decisions concerning the necessity for medical release prior to clinical treatment of the patient. Responsible for directing medical emergencies, and serves as resource person to students and faculty, complies and reinforces clinic policies, and serves as a model of professionalism. In addition, this position supervises and assists student clinicians in the following: exposing radiographs, interpreting radiographs, tissue analysis, identification of normal and abnormal oral structures, identification of pathologies and their etiology, recognition of conditions which preclude treatment, charting of dental conditions, and aseptic technique.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the students assigned to the Initial Consultations appointments for the day and prescribe and evaluate all radiographs.
  • Circulate through clinic to be available to student clinicians.
  • Review charts at beginning of clinic to be familiar with patients' needs.
  • Review student clinicians' appointment plan and instructor objectives.
  • Observe assessments and give suggestions.
  • Be familiar with the sequence that is recommended for procedures.
  • Suggest alternative approaches to Process 4 student clinicians.
  • Encourage verbal reporting or findings during verification checks.
  • Check dental charting and plaque/stain verification-if available.
  • Encourage students to take increasing responsibility for their work.
  • Review patient records for DDS signatures at the end of each clinical session.
  • Function as a liaison between MATC Dental Hygiene Program and professional organizations.
  • Attend clinical staff meetings at the beginning of each semester.

Qualifications

Required Education: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD).

Required Experience: Two (2) years minimum utilizing the services of a dental hygienist in professional practice.

Preferred Experience: Five (5) years of experience in related activities.

Required License/Certification: Licensed as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in the State of Wisconsin.

Preferred License/Certification: None.

Specialty Skills: Ability to supervise a small staff of personnel.

Physical Demands

  • Must satisfactorily complete health screen requirements for the Healthcare Pathway, which include a criminal background check, drug test, and verification of immunizations.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 30 lbs., carry, and push up to 20 lbs. and ability pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and a ladder and maintain balance.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and speak.
  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: 75% of time spent sitting, 20% of time standing, and 5% of time walking.

Supplemental Information

Start Date:

This position supports the Healthcare Pathway and is available to start immediately.

Hours:

Up to 19 hours weekly, in-person, primarily based out of the Downtown Campus. Work days: Monday and Friday. Preferred work hours would be Friday mornings (8a.m.- 12p.m.) and Monday afternoons 1:30p.m. - 5:30p.m. The Mondays would start in November.

Salary:

Salary is determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity. Salary determination will be only based on years of credited experience that is listed on the job application, please include complete work history.
