Description
Acara Solutions is looking to hire a Network Specialist for local utility company.
The work involves voice and data communication network related activities such as design, analysis, capacity planning, installation, monitoring, troubleshooting, documentation, performance evaluation, security administration, tuning and maintenance in a local area, wide area, and Internet enabled network environment. The networks include voice and data communications hardware and software, communications facilities, video monitoring systems, vehicle tracking systems, entry access security systems and time recording systems. The equipment includes routers, switches, hubs, patch panels, servers, personal computers, laptops, tablets, printers, scanners, video cameras recorders and displays, GPS vehicle tracking servers, time clocks and proximity card readers. The software includes configuration and administration of routers, switches and server operating systems, network security, endpoint protection, anti-virus, and intrusion detection software. General supervision is received from an Information Technology Manager or higher-grade computer operations and support specialist with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Supervision is not normally a responsibility of the position but may be exercised over a small number of support staff assigned to a specific project.
Pay is 63K annually with outstanding benefits.
Responsibilities:
  • Designs, develops, implements, and supports integrated voice and data networks using TCP/IP and a variety of vendor supplied servers, server software, and client software.
  • Monitors and analyzes existing communication networks, security procedures and operations for the purpose of proposing and developing modifications and improvements for network security and performance.
  • Ensures maintenance of standards for network implementation and operation, including network security, endpoint and anti-virus protection, video and entry access security. Installs, configures, and maintains vendor supplied hardware and software for network functions and operations.
  • Prepares charts, tables, and diagrams to assist in analyzing problems or identifying opportunities throughout the networked environment. Performs network hardware, software and procedural evaluations and provides management with reports and recommendations.
  • Provides network related training, support and instructions to information technology and user personnel.
  • Participates in project organization, scheduling and implementation with other information technology and vendor personnel.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging new network technologies and network security methods and evaluates the adaptability of new technologies and methods into existing operational activities.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a bachelor's degree in information system management, Computer Science, Business Administration and four (4) years of local area and wide area network support experience.
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) year college or university with an associate degree in any field, completion of at least two network related information technology vendor authorized certificate programs, and six (6) years local and wide area network support experience;
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b)
