General Responsibilities |
As members of the Workforce Development team, MD Rebuilds Career Pathway Coaches, are responsible for guiding students as they develop and plan their academic goals, including academic progress and planning, student support, completion, graduation, transfer, mentorship and engagement in the Howard Community College (
HCC) Workforce, Career & Community Education program. MD Rebuilds Career Pathway Coaches provide students with the coaching, academic planning and advising support and interventions that they need to be successful in their academic careers. This position builds, maintains, and collaborates with other members of the Student Success Division, the Teacher Education Department and Dual Enrollment Offices within Teaching and Learning and various groups within the
HCPSS to support and assist students in their academic journeys. A successful academic advisor helps students and families navigate through all aspects of the academic journey with enthusiasm, exceptional communication, engagement, outreach, and attention to detail. |
Work Performed |
- Responsible for academic advising, planning and interventions to deliver high quality and meaningful experiences to students within the MD Rebuilds Program.
- Able to clearly articulate college functions, policies and procedures to students.
- Able to clearly articulate MSDE requirements to students.
- Work collaboratively to proactively support students in a case management model consistently providing high-impact experiences and wrap around services for students within the Education & Apprenticeship Pathways .
- Employ technology and strategies to advise students across modalities and locations of services.
- Assist students in MD Rebuilds Program to develop, refine and articulate career and academic goals and to develop short and long term academic plans.
- Provide students with transfer information, particularly in regards to the AAT, ensuring that students are aware of requirements at their transfer institution.
- Develops tracking and collaborative data practices to monitor student success for students within the MD Rebuilds Program.
- Ensure students are informed about academic and student support initiatives, program and resources.
- Acts as point of contact for faculty, staff, administration and external stakeholders to receive and address student needs and concerns.
- Assist students with navigating institutional academic policies and procedures including financial, graduation and academic forms and other requirements. Comply with all relevant legal and statutory requirements when advising students, including and not limited to TIA, ADA and FERPA.
- Complete and maintain required documentation including but not limited to case notes, intervention reports and confidential student records using the colleges client relationship management system and student information system.
- Complete and maintain required MD Rebuilds Program grant documentation to detail interventions and student targeted supports.
- Other duties as assigned related to the MD Rebuilds Program.

- Bachelor's degree. All degrees must be from a recognized institutional accreditor.
- Minimum of two years of related experience.
- Ability to meet complex goals and collaborate with various departments on key initiatives.
- Prior college advising, student services, or counseling experience.
- Competency in organizing data and preparing reports required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Proficiency with student information systems, CRF, databases, and other technology supporting student success.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; confidence speaking with people from diverse backgrounds; ability to quickly establish rapport and engage students; and ability to persuade students to advocate for themselves and follow through.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and set priorities to achieve goals and objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a cooperative team-focused work environment.
- Ability to contribute to a dynamic, student-focused team culture that delivers excellent customer service and personal attention to students and families.

- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information and materials while abiding by state and federal privacy laws including FERPA.
- Broad understanding of academic programs and pathways, curriculum, and transfer processes.

Working Conditions |
MD Rebuilds Career Pathway Coach position is grant funded and will work 25 hours per week. May work evening, weekend and have extended hours during peak periods. Extensive follow-up work, database use, responding to inquiries, meetings, etc. Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility required.
- Regular attendance and an ability to work mornings, evenings and/or weekends consistent with college needs.
- Criminal background check.
- Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.
