Medical Assisting Coordinator
Hondros College of Nursing
Independence, OH Campus

The Medical Assisting Coordinator is responsible for on-campus oversight of the Medical Assisting program at the direction of the Dean, Medical Assisting Program. The Medical Assisting Coordinator instructs students in assigned lecture and lab sections; ensures the program is implemented as designed; and provides leadership to other faculty members teaching in the program. This individual also participates in the planning and development of the Medical Assisting program curriculum, and shares responsibility for Medical Assisting program outcomes, including retention and job placement. The Medical Assisting Coordinator reports directly to the Dean, Medical Assisting Program, and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities:

Teaching & Student Success



  • Instructs Medical Assisting students in assigned lecture courses and on-campus labs, according to the established curriculum
  • Promotes a positive learning environment in the classroom and lab environment
  • Advises Medical Assisting students on course, program, and career issues
  • Evaluates Medical Assisting student achievement and progress
  • Provides tutoring and success strategies to assist students in meeting required learning outcomes
  • Refers Medical Assisting students to the lab for skill development as needed


Course Implementation



  • Works collaboratively with all members of the College to fully implement the curriculum
  • Reviews class syllabus that aligns with the curriculum plan and explains course requirements
  • Designs and implements teaching strategies to assist the student in meeting course objectives
  • Actively participates in faculty meetings to insure consistent implementation of courses


Campus Operations



  • Coordinates academic operations of the Medical Assisting program at the campus, at the direction of the Dean, Medical Assisting Program
  • Provides support to students in using computer-based educational products, including, but not limited to, MyClassroom, HESI, Connect, ExamSoft, etc.
  • Provides support to other Medical Assisting program faculty on the campus
  • Follows governance reporting structures
  • Follows all written policies and procedures in the catalog
  • Supervises lab budgetary purchases and needs for campus
  • Contributes to the budgetary needs of campus including supervision of lab budget
  • Assists with placing students at clinical externship sites


Program Advocate



  • Acts an ambassador of the College at all times when interacting with colleagues, staff, students, patients and families
  • Participates in evaluative studies related to program improvement


Requirements/Education:



  • An associate's degree in a healthcare related field from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
  • Three (3) years of full-time experience as a medical assistant in a healthcare facility, with a minimum of one (1) year of direct patient care in an ambulatory healthcare setting.
  • Classroom teaching experience.
  • Current medial assistant registration or certification through a nationally recognized and accredited certifying agency (or willingness and ability to obtain at time of hire).
