The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking talented and motivated candidates for an Engineering Supervisor (ES) position within the Transportation Team. The selected candidate will focus on leading a subset of employees to foster on-the-job leadership development and help facilitate team growth while supporting projects as needed. The Engineering Supervisor will report directly to the Technical Manager and will interact closely with other business units such as sales, marketing, account management, and project management. The Engineering Supervisor should be a self-starting technical leader with expertise in leadership, communication, and resource management. This position will preferably be based in Fargo, ND, Bismarck, ND, Denver, CO, Austin, TX, or Houston, TX. Remote locations will also be considered.

What You'll Do

Project Technical Lead - 50%



  • Manages and leads all engineering activities during the proposal, design, and construction stages of projects.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of several disciplines and Project Management.
  • Maintains high levels of quality and responsiveness to meet internal and external client requirements in alignment with company expectations.
  • Responsible for reviewing project drawings, calculations & specifications, assuming responsible charge as needed.


Management Responsibilities - 25%



  • Provides strategic direction, leadership, and technical oversight for employees to achieve individual, team, department, and organizational goals.
  • Oversees design activities of team members.
  • Actively develops staff's technical, leadership, and soft skills through annual goals, career development planning, one-on-one meetings, and performance reviews.
  • Communicates department and team-level decisions, strategies, and approaches as well as the rationale behind them.
  • Facilitates weekly team meetings (bi-weekly at a minimum) and actively manages team resource planning.
  • Develops communication and onboarding plans for new hires.
  • Actively supports and is involved in finding and hiring new talent.
  • Supports team and department Employee Engagement Action Planning.


Business Development Responsibilities - 25%



  • Manages, develops, and leverages existing client relationships by staying in regular contact with key clients.
  • Participates and partners with members of the Strategic Growth and Marketing team and engineers throughout the organization to promote revenue growth and expansion of services with existing and prospective clients.
  • Supports proposal efforts by developing, providing resources, and reviewing proposals by working with the Proposal Development Team, project managers, and other departments.



What We Expect from You



  • A B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent is required.
  • Civil Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in one of the following states is required: North Dakota; South Dakota; Colorado; Texas; or Minnesota.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of civil engineering experience in design and/or construction in the transportation engineering field is required.
  • Must be analytical, and self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Strong analytic and information management skills.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, clients, public, and external agencies.
  • High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timeliness.
  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Displays a high level of initiative and explores new opportunities while understanding the risk to the organization.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and additional software knowledge depending on specialty.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.

    Additional Opportunity Details:
    Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $110,100 - $149,000
    * Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job-specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role
