We're looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer to join our Risk360 team. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Software Engineering, you'll be responsible for:



  • Design of data processing pipelines to handle data ingestion, transformation, and analysis to derive actionable insights for risk quantification.
  • Product features related to data transformations, enrichment, and analytics.
  • Observability of the platform and automation of test infrastructure. Implementing robust security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, such as GDPR or CCPA.
  • Establishing monitoring mechanisms to track the data platform's performance and health and define maintenance procedures to keep it running smoothly. You will seize every opportunity to refactor code in the interests of maintainability and reusability.
  • Technical leadership and mentorship to the engineering team, guiding them in best practices and design decisions.


What We're Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)

  • 10+ years of experience in software development and enterprise data warehouse solutions; with at least 5+ years of experience in building scalable data processing infrastructure, taking into account concurrency, latency, and efficiency by profiling, reviewing logs, etc.
  • Proficient in: Core Java, Concurrency and Distributed Computing. SQL including query planning and optimizing queries to analyze and improve performance.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure services on AWS/Azure/GCP, and stay informed about relevant technology trends and developments.
  • Experience in container (ex: docker) and container orchestration (ex: kubernetes) based environments.


What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Ability to write code that can perform efficiently in a big data setup, which will scale to handle large volumes of data efficiently, considering the potential growth of data over time. Experience tuning JVM for optimal application performance.
  • Knowledge of various DBMS systems, including NoSQL architectures and design principles. Working knowledge of GraphQL and understanding of security compliance frameworks.
  • MS in Computer Science or related field.


This is an office based role in either our San Jose, CA or Alpharetta, GA office (hybrid environment).

Zscaler's salary ranges are benchmarked and are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

The base salary range listed for this full-time position excludes commission/ bonus/ equity (if applicable) + benefits.

Base Pay Range
$175,000 $250,000 USD
