We have an immediate opening for a Commercial Technology Business Development Engineer. This is a remote position and can be based in Indiana (preferred), Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, or Wisconsin. This exciting role requires 40% travel to customer sites in the U.S. You will sell industrial gases (primarily liquid bulk and on-site generation) in primarily the Midwestern Region of the US. You will be expected to live in the United States Midwest.

Air Products & Chemicals is looking for a self-starting, diligent, commercially strong candidate with strong technical skills to lead new business development and sustain the growth of the Air Products' industrial gas business in the Metals Processing segment. This role requires technical sales and industrial gas applications experience.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • You will be responsible for delivering business results by delivering above average profitability on the technical sale of industrial gases, technology, services and equipment into Metals Processing customers. This segment encompasses applications such as heat treating, annealing, sintering, additive manufacturing, composites processing or metal fabrication.

  • Your responsibilities will include contacting prospects, developing and implementing technical solutions, making presentations and proposals, and working with sales and marketing teams to plan and implement regional strategies.

  • You will work closely with local sales, sub-regional marketing, business management, the marketing and commercial technology manager and the advanced technology and equipment engineering teams to promote, sell, install and support our differentiated industrial gas applications, technologies and equipment.

  • You will function as our key expert for Metals Processing in the Midwest in the pursuit of new business in this broad industry, as well as maintaining/growing our existing customer base.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develop and advance the current sales opportunity pipeline for the segment in the territories of responsibility and in support of growth objectives.

  • Identify and develop new prospects for industrial gas usage on their operations, equipment, and end markets served. Focus on prospects operating in growth markets and in geographies of priority for Air Products.

  • Analyze prospects' and customers' processes to identify new or more efficient usage of industrial gases. Diagnose and trouble-shoot process and equipment problems in customers' facilities.

  • Engage marketing, segment marketing and lead generation to develop a broader opportunity pipeline in regions and applications of priority for Air Products.

  • Demonstrate Air Products' applications technologies in customers' facilities, proving the benefits of industrial gases in customer processes. Work side by side with customer operations staff during trials and start-ups.

  • Identify the economic benefits of Air Products' technologies to increase production, enhance product quality, lower the customers' costs and reduce emissions.

  • Provide feedback to the industry segment and marketing managers and the advanced technology and equipment engineering teams regarding industry needs (economic, regulatory, process flexibility, etc.). Guide the development of new applications.

  • Work with customers and internal groups in advanced technology R&D, computational modeling and marketing to develop technical papers and marketing materials that showcase modeling or lab/field demonstration of AP offerings.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Engineering degree required in metallurgical, material science, mechanical or chemical engineering. An MBA is a plus.

  • 5 plus years of experience in the Metals Processing industry, preferably in the automotive, aerospace, and/or general manufacturing industries.

  • Technical sales experience.

  • Willingness to travel 40% of the time within the territory.

  • Strong candidates will have process and technology expertise in annealing, brazing, sintering, hardening, additive manufacturing, composites, and/or welding.

  • Valid Drivers' License and good driving record required.

  • Experience in or prior exposure to the industrial gases industry is a plus.
