The Lead Tax Analyst plays a crucial role in managing the company's tax reporting and compliance within different tax functions and various jurisdictions, including federal, state, and international. The Lead Tax Analyst prepares and reviews tax filings, conducts tax research, manages audits and supports the company's tax-related projects. The Lead Tax Analyst also provides guidance and mentorship to other members of the organization and fosters collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate tax filings and compliance with relevant laws.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures income tax compliance thru accurate tax accounting and reporting in collaboration with the Finance team.
  • Prepares the tax provision in accordance with ASC740.
  • Prepares quarterly estimates and extension calculations.
  • Reviews federal and state income tax returns.
  • Ensures timely filing of all tax documents and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains and updates tax-related documentation and records.
  • Manages tax audits and coordinates responses to tax authorities.
  • Conducts Sales and Use Tax research and analysis on tax issues, provides recommendations for compliance and planning.
  • Stays current with changes in sales tax laws and regulations.
  • Responds to internal and external sales tax questions regarding taxability of the Company’s various product offerings and confirms tax rates for multiple legal entities doing business in all 50 states.
  • Prepares and reviews audit documentation and workpapers.
  • Negotiates with tax authorities to resolve disputes.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the income and sales & use tax functions.
  • Collaborates with IT and finance teams to implement tax automation solutions and improve reporting accuracy.
  • Stays updated with industry best practices and technological advancements in tax compliance and reporting.
  • Develops and maintains internal controls to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Collaborates and works closely with various departments to gather necessary information for tax filings and planning.
  • Provides support for special projects, including system implementations and process improvements.
  • Collaborates with external tax advisors and consultants as needed.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in tax compliance and reporting with a mix of income tax and sales & use tax experience, preferably within a corporate or public accounting environment.
  • Experience with Value Added Tax is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of managing tax audits and working with tax authorities.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and international tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in tax preparation software and ERP systems (JD Edwards G/L or similar and Vertex is a plus).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax issues to non-tax professionals.
  • Leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Advanced degree in Taxation or Law (JD/LLM) is a plus.
