Position Description:

The University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is currently recruiting Postdoctoral Fellows in Pediatric Psychology for the 2025-2026 academic year. The overall goal of this fellowship is to prepare the next generation of scientist-practitioners for careers in academic research and clinical applications.

Currently, we are offering a fellowship focused on pediatric health psychology services or pediatric neuropsychology. The fellow will spend about 70% of their time in clinical services and will have opportunities for research and structured educational activities. The Health Psychology track will spend clinical time embedded in outpatient specialty clinics working with children and adolescents with various health conditions including diabetes, cystic fibrosis, inflammatory bowel disease, and chronic pain and will collaborate with various medical specialties. Depending on the successful applicant's interest, they may choose to focus on one or two specific subspecialties of pediatric psychology (e.g., Pediatric Gastroenterology, Cardiology, etc.). Opportunities for inpatient consultation/liaison service are also available.

The Pediatric Neuropsychology track focuses on psychological assessment of learning and attention disorders and neuropsychological testing with youth with various medical conditions (including seizures, cancer, and kidney transplant patients). The fellow will spend clinical time in outpatient clinics including the LD/ADHD Clinic, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic, and Pediatric Neuropsychology Clinic.

At the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital, Pediatric Psychology is housed within the Division of Pediatric Psychology within the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics. Our team of psychologists have specialties in three distinct areas including Neuropsychology, Health Psychology, and Behavioral Psychology.

A one-year postdoctoral fellowship position is available for candidates who will have obtained their PhD in clinical, counseling, or school psychology and completed an APA/APPIC approved internship before September 1, 2025. The fellow must obtain a provisional license to practice in Iowa by the start date. All applicants should send a curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and a letter of intent describing clinical and research interests. Applicants applying to the Pediatric Neuropsychology track should also send a de-identified diagnostic report. Applications are being accepted immediately. Virtual interviews will be held January 10th and January 31st. Please identify a preferred interview date in the letter of intent. If there is no preference, please indicate that too. We will be flexible with your schedule.

Stipend is commensurate with NIH guidelines, and includes health benefits, paid vacation and sick leave, and time to attend national conferences.

Education Requirement:

Ph.D. in clinical, counseling, or school psychology is required.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an APA/APPIC approved internship prior to the date of hire

License or eligible to obtain a provisional license to practice psychology in Iowa.

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
