JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State University Libraries seeks a dynamic Library and Data Services Specialist capable of balancing responsibilities across remote and on-site environments, with strong organizational, technical, and interpersonal skills. The Library and Data Services Specialist plays a critical role in supporting both the Penn State University Libraries' Research Informatics and Publishing Department's Data Learning Center and the Penn State Mont Alto Library. This position is responsible for two key areas of work: Data Curation and Education Support and Evening Library Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Work independently and collaboratively within the Data Learning Center team to provide data curation services, enhancing deposits to a Penn State Institutional Repository, ScholarSphere, to ensure findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability (FAIR principles) and documenting curatorial actions.

  • Provide educational opportunities and respond to inquiries regarding the use of ScholarSphere.

  • Serve as the evening assistant at the Penn State Mont Alto Library during the fall and spring semesters (mid-August - early May). Hours are Monday-Thursday 4-9 pm. Staff the circulation desk, answer basic informational questions, process and shelve library materials - including the archival collection.

  • Develop relationships with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Assist with special projects and events as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to share knowledge with others through sufficient oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills that enable positive patron and colleague interactions as well as successful collaborations.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new skills independently as well as through instruction.

  • Proven capability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

  • High degree of reliability and accountability in managing tasks and responsibilities.

  • Keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or knowledge in research data management and/or data curation.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$34,800.00 - $50,500.00
