Job Summary

Patches, repairs, scrapes, applies solvents, cleans, etc. various interior and exterior surfaces, as required, to prepare surfaces for finishes. Paints, stains, applies wall coverings to interior and exterior surfaces. Estimates the cost to prepare and paint surfaces. May Inspect work of contracted labor and/or outside contractors as a project administrator. Navigate and monitor Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (preferably AssetWORKS) for trade related work orders, various data, budget targets, etc. Operates and maintains equipment related to the trade.

Salary: $39.09 per hour

THE SELECTION PROCESS: will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods. The Office of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Five (5) years of experience at a journeyman painter work level
  • Experience in operating within a Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (specifically in AssetWORKS preferred)
  • Valid State of Wisconsin Motor Vehicle operators license and availability of properly insured personal vehicle at time of appointment and throughout employment.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including MS Office software
  • EPA Asbestos Abatement Certification (O&M) within first six months of appointment Note 1
  • Silica Hazard Awareness Certification within first month of appointment. Note 1
  • Lead Safe Renovator Certification within six months of appointment. Note 1
  • Scaffolding Hazard Awareness (User and Erector) Certification within six months of appointment. Note 1
  • Fall Protection Competent Person Training Certification within six months of appointment. Note 1
  • Completion of the DFMS Electrical Safety Training within six months of appointment: Note 1
  • Confined Space Entry Training within six months of appointment: Note 1
  • Completion of DFMS Maintenance and Repair Staff New Hire EHS Orientation Training Note 2

Note 1 Training and/or testing will be provided by MPS but employee must obtain the certification within the time allotted.

Note 2 Training modules assigned on the MPS Learning Management System (LMS).

Physical Demands:
  • Exposure to work environments as previously indicated
  • Ability to climb and work at heights at or above 100 feet in all weather conditions
  • Ability to move objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 70 lbs.

Working Environment:
  • Ability to work mandatory overtime hours as required, whether given advanced notice, or called-in to perform emergency duties
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, general construction debris, hazardous materials, etc. that may require the use of respiratory protection.
  • Exposure to loud noises that may require the use of hearing protection devices.
  • Exposure to confined spaces that may require special rigging, harnessing, etc.
  • Work at heights on various types of support equipment that may require special harnessing and fall protection equipment.
  • Roof work that may require special fall protection equipment, such as personal fall arrest systems (PFAS).
  • Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, crawling, etc.
Responsibilities

  • Inspects, paints, stains, applies wall coverings, applies solvents, patches, repairs, scrapes and cleans various interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Reads and interprets project specifications and drawings related to the trade and, as necessary, to coordinate with other trades.
  • Maintains knowledge of and ability to:
  • Paint, stain, apply wall coverings, apply solvents, patch, repair, scrape, and clean various interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Determine the paint or stain type for application, amount of materials required, matching the color and type of the existing paints and stains, mixing paint and stain either by hand or with an electric mixer, applying the finish with air or airless spray painting equipment, rollers, brushes, or sheepskins.
  • Select and mix the proper adhesives, prepare surfaces, cut material to size and hang and finish wallpaper and vinyl wall covers.
  • Maintain equipment related to the trade such as; cleaning brushes, rollers, sheepskins, power mixers, paint pots, spray guns, air hoses, mixers, compressor filters on spray painting equipment, etc.
  • Estimates and allocates manpower, materials, and equipment related to the trade.
  • Takes direction and works effectively as a member of a team.
  • Develops effective working relationships with diverse individuals at all levels.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
