Data Governance Expert

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Governance Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team. In this role, you will focus on developing and implementing data governance strategies, policies, and principles to drive data governance maturity within the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and in Azure cloud environments. You will be instrumental in transforming data governance practices, fostering a culture of data stewardship, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Governance Strategy: Develop and implement data governance strategies and policies to enhance data governance maturity within OPM and Azure cloud environments.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead cross-functional data governance teams, influencing stakeholders at various levels to adopt and implement data governance best practices.

  • Data Governance Transformation: Drive data governance transformation efforts, fostering a culture of data stewardship and achieving measurable improvements in data quality and governance practices.

  • Advanced Data Governance: Apply advanced data governance concepts, including data quality management, data stewardship, and data lineage tracking, to support enterprise-wide initiatives.

  • Tool Implementation: Implement and manage data governance tools and technologies (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, Informatica) to support data governance initiatives.

  • Data Profiling & MDM: Utilize advanced data profiling techniques, master data management (MDM), data cataloging, and metadata management to ensure data integrity and accessibility.

  • Azure Data Services: Leverage Azure data services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse, Azure Blob Storage) to support data governance and management.

  • Metadata Management: Configure and maintain enterprise metadata templates, including data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metrics/KPI glossaries.

  • Compliance & Privacy: Establish methods to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and industry standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Gather requirements from stakeholders and translate them into technical specifications for product teams, ensuring alignment with business goals.

  • Agile Development: Work in an Agile environment, collaborating with teams to iteratively develop and deliver data governance products.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related roles, with a focus on leading data governance projects and initiatives.

  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

  • Leadership Skills: Proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and strategies to influence stakeholders and drive data governance transformation.

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Advanced knowledge of data governance concepts, data quality management, data stewardship, and data lineage tracking.

    • Experience implementing and managing data governance tools and technologies (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, Informatica).

    • Proficiency in data profiling techniques, master data management, data cataloging, and metadata management.

    • Strong experience with Azure data services and metadata management tools.

  • Compliance Knowledge: In-depth understanding of data privacy regulations and industry compliance standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA.

  • Agile Experience: Experience working in Agile environments, collaborating with teams to deliver data governance products iteratively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex data governance challenges.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey data governance concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Certifications in data governance, data management, or related fields.
