Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking an After School Assistant. The Cornwall Center at Rutgers University-Newark, is seeking energetic and creative advocates to serve as After-school Program Servant Leaders for the Promise Youth University, Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center (

CCLC serves 3rd -8th grade students, including students with special needs, delivering a science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (
STEAM) based program.
PYU will employ Servant Leaders to work alongside certified teachers, community sponsors, community-based organizations, and other servant leaders to deliver high quality programs, at a15 to 1 student-staff ratio. Servant Leaders will support the program implementation of five essential components, high quality academic and character-building enrichment; parent and family involvement; civic engagement and social action; intergenerational servant leadership; and nutrition, health and mental health. Servant leaders support the seamless transition from the school day to after-school, including snack and meal distribution and homework help. Servant leaders will undergo training to support classroom management and the integration of positive youth development in their instruction and interaction with students. This project is funded by New Jersey Department of Education, Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.
This position will be responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Providing academic remediation
- Assisting with interactive activities
- Supervising students
- Working collaboratively with partners,
- Participating in and apply learnings from ongoing professional development
- Communicating with families
This position is contingent upon continuation of grant funding. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- High School diploma or equivalent, and/or up to 4 years of relevant office, clerical, bookkeeping, library assistant or related experience depending on the duties to be performed.
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.

- Some undergraduate experience is highly preferred Individuals who have experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics are highly encouraged to apply
- Experience working with youth highly preferred
