CDI Engineering Solutions is a multi-disciplinary engineering organization offering a full range of integrated engineering design, project support, procurement and construction management services to the energy and chemicals industries.



Position Summary

This position is in Norco's Technology Department and the primary function is to support the development and execution of Norco Manufacturing Complex small capital projects. The department supports both Chemicals and Manufacturing (Refining) Assets. The projects range in size from $0.2 to $25 mln and typically this role is responsible for eight to fifteen projects depending on size and complexity of the projects.

One of the primary responsibilities is the development of the process design. For low complexity projects (i.e. - equipment purchases, etc.) this position may have to obtain quotes, but will have limited if any responsibilities with purchasing and construction. For larger more complex projects this role is responsible developing the project premise document, Basis of Design Document, and validate the business case. The primary responsibility for SELECT/DEFINE phase is to lead a process/project team to deliver a process design that will operate safely, be in environmental compliance, and meet production premises. Throughout the life of the project this role is expected to fill the process engineering role for specific project deliverables such as reviewing and comments on PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, Process Engineering representative on HazOp.



Responsibilities

In front end development this role will need to develop the basic data (flow rates, compositions, intermediate & final product specifications, pressure, temperatures, validate the business case justifying the project, etc.) and complete the other front end deliverables (i.e. - economic analysis) necessary for the project to proceed into the next project phase

Prepare mark ups of PFDs and P&IDs

Develop the scope of work to be performed by the engineering firms for the various stage gates.

Is responsible for managing the integrated technical team to deliver the final process design. Ensures the process design team provides the necessary data to finalize documentation as defined by the PCAL/DCAF (site requirements). Examples of PCAP deliverables include:

o Feasibility Report

o Basis for Design

o Process Flow Diagrams and Heat & Material Balance

o Line lists

o Necessary equipment data sheets

o Preliminary and final safeguarding studies

o Flare impacts

Expected to fill the Process Engineering TA3 role for specific project deliverables.

Leads and facilitates resolution of key investigations related to process design.

Supports the Project Manager to align key stakeholders.

Will follow the project thru commissioning and start-up phase and will provide process/technical support through the life of the project. (i.e. - OMAR, PHA, MOC, RCM, ESP, 3D model reviews, sign off line lists, participate in MOCs, participate in hazop, review new or modified procedures developed by the project etc.

Ensure all process designs are safe, technically sound, meet Company standards and meets business needs.

Support Project Manager at review committee meetings for assigned projects.

Potentially lead or support special technical studies and provide engineering support to the assessment (pre-scouting) activities of improvement ideas.

Ensure adequate / appropriate commissioning and start-up support to operations.

This position has no direct reports

The position is a technical assurance role

Leadership skills will be further developed. This role will be directing the process engineering team at the engineering office.

This role has many interfaces both inside and outside the manufacturing site. Communication, interpersonal skills, conflict management skills, negotiating skills will be further developed to manage the multiple stakeholders who have varying need and priority.

Provide accurate and useful feedback and coaching to others in a supportive and sensitive manner

Actively seeks out and listen to customer/stakeholder needs and perspectives and asks probing questions as necessary to ensure understanding

The position can work a 9/80 schedule, 4/10 schedule or a straight 40 hour week

Hybrid schedule working from home on Mondays and Fridays



Qualifications

Prefer 4+ years of supporting a (chemical or refining) manufacturing site with a broad range of unit experience is preferred. The candidate should be familiar with the project work process.

Have a great curiosity and no fear in asking the obvious questions. This skill is necessary to develop the project scope.
