About the role

We're looking for a talented and hands-on Senior Data Engineer to help drive the technical vision and delivery of features in our Application Data Platform. Our Application Data Platform is designed to offer both our internal developers as well as our customers a world class developer experience empowering engineering teams and customers alike to build the features that matter most. The platform must support both analytical and operational use cases and presents interesting challenges across a variety of areas - data modeling, performance, scalability, etc.

You will work closely with Application Data Platform leadership to build and deliver our technical roadmap. On any given day you could be writing a design document that outlines how you plan to solve a particular problem we're working on, working to deliver some of the most challenging and high-leverage parts of the platform, fixing bugs or optimizing code to deliver higher performance or better overall utilization, or mentoring other engineers within the organization.

Responsibilities

To be able to work on high-impact software projects for Data Platform, you will need to:



  • Be comfortable designing production-grade pipelines and systems
  • Be comfortable writing and deploying production-grade code on a daily basis
  • Contribute to automated tests and other parts of end-to-end software delivery
  • Work collaboratively with other teams and within the team with other engineers and product managers
  • Mentor and lead by example more junior engineers, breaking up tasks for them while leading end-to-end projects
  • Evaluate and identify the correct approaches or technologies to use to solve problems
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, handling production deployments and monitoring production systems


Qualifications



  • Required

    • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Computer Science or similar or equivalent work experience
    • 2+ years of experience as a Senior Engineer owning data production platforms
    • Strong applied software development experience; you've built, shipped, monitored, broken, and fixed software applications
    • Experience with real time or near real time data processing, databases and data management
    • Experience with an object oriented programming language (Python preferred)
    • Strong fundamentals with data structures and algorithms
    • Proficiency in Unix/Linux environments
    • Experience with a source control system (git preferred)
    • Experience with containerization or virtualization systems (Docker preferred)
    • Experience with Kubernetes
    • Experience with Cloud Providers (AWS preferred)
    • Debugging experience


  • Desirable


    • Knowledge of networking, operating systems, security fundamentals
    • Experience with a commonly-used observability tool such as Grafana or Prometheus
    • Experience with Rust
    • Experience as technical lead for a production-grade data pipeline
    • Experience as a mentor to junior engineers



Our competitive total rewards package includes cash compensation within the range provided below. Actual pay for this position may vary based on the hired candidate's location, experience and relevant incumbent pay position.

$150,000 $170,000 USD
