Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Engagement in Learning Support and Student Services Fosters learning and study skill behaviors that empower students to achieve their academic objectives. Identifies learning behaviors, devises strategies, and predicts learning outcomes to aid students in reaching their academic goals. Determines and schedules suitable support and tutoring methods for students. Offers tutoring assistance for specific academic skills and subjects, aligned with classroom instruction and in collaboration with faculty when necessary. Manages makeup test proctoring services for MATC students.

Operational Oversight and Student Assistance Takes charge of maintaining designated spaces and equipment, establishing and enforcing regulations, and managing inventory of supplies and equipment. Addresses student concerns related to computers, class issues, software applications including blackboard, class schedules, financial aid applications, web-based homework platforms, computer support equipment, and audio/visual systems. Updates inventory and data, prepares reports, study guides, and reference materials. Maintains files, databases, and progress records, and acts as a liaison between students and faculty. Assists in the recruitment, interviewing, application, hiring, and training of tutors.

Ethical Standards and Confidentiality Demonstrates honesty by consistently adhering to strong moral and ethical principles, emphasizing truthfulness and accuracy in all actions. Ensures that all involved in the educational process understand and uphold its integrity,

Information Provision and In-Service Participation Offers general information about MATC and relevant support services, referring students to other departments or services to meet their educational needs.

Collaborative Teamwork: Establishes, maintains, and enhances positive work relationships with staff, faculty, students and administrators.

Continuous Learning and Professional Development: Maintains current knowledge of best practices and standards in higher education with an emphasis on community Colleges. Actively organizes and/or participates in applicable workgroups, trainings, workshops, seminars, committees and professional associations or conferences to promote continuous learning.

Other duties: Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.


Qualifications

Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.

Required Education & Experience Associate's degree and (2) Two years experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of instructional and related procedures as appropriate for a tutoring program.
  • Basic knowledge and skills of office operation and management.
  • Familiarity with the instructional process and use of instructional media.
  • Skilled in operating and maintaining specialized equipment, including software related to the development of instructional materials and presentations.
  • Ability to understand and support the student-teacher relationship.
  • Ability to work in a team environment. Organizational skill and ability to work independently.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Extensive ability to utilize databases, student information systems and Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and Word and the initiative to apply queries and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, outside governmental and community agencies, and the general public.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse educational and socio-economic backgrounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., carry, and push up to 20 lbs. and ability pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and a ladder and maintain balance.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear, see, and speak.
  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: 50% of time spent sitting, 25% of time standing, and 25% of time walking.

Supplemental Information

Hours This is a part-time position with an FTE of 0.475, working up to 19 hours per week. Hours may vary depending on the needs of the role, with some evening hours, & some weekend shifts, including Saturdays and Sundays, may also be required.

Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
