Department OverviewThe Avigilon Alta hardware group (formerly Openpath) is looking for an outstanding team member to drive design, development, and deployment of deeply embedded firmware on new and existing products. We are looking for strong technical talent to join us as we build, scale and innovatively develop our industry leading platform for access control and office automation. Strong analytical and software skills are a must in order to join our team, and we are particularly seeking candidates with experience and skills in power-constrained, real-time environments. Our engineering team aids in building the infrastructure that seamlessly supports the business and its growing customer base. Engineers, customers, and end-users will all be affected by solutions developed by our team. It's a full stack on a small team with big company support approach. This position requires constant cross team communication and heavy cooperation with customer support, software, and hardware development groups. An ideal candidate will be passionate about problem solving, will look to automation to address issues, and will ultimately envision solutions to the next level.

What you'll be doing:

  • Designing and developing highly reliable software for our internally-designed embedded systems as well as hardware interface services in a very embedded environment.
  • Making data-driven decisions to optimize for power consumption and performance.
  • Board bring up, writing device drivers, and R&D on the latest embedded technologies.
  • Writing clean and testable C code for a multi-processor product.
  • Collaborating with a distributed firmware team on idea and implementations for our products.
  • Iterating on existing RF software drivers and business logic to improve performance and reliability.
  • Reading schematics and collaborating with hardware engineers.
  • Taking ownership of your code, including verification testing and writing documentation.
  • Work with customer support and other software teams as a technical resource for any customer issues and patch bugs as needed.
  • Support for internal and external manufacturing efforts for product quality control and bring up.
  • Work with QA team to design, develop and execute test scripts for life cycle, unit and regression testing
  • Work cross functionally with mobile, backend, hardware and firmware teams to develop new products
  • Work with a truly unique and driven team that comes from a diverse background of different hardware and software roles. Side conversations you'll encounter range from hacker cons and bluetooth exploits to flying airplanes and the finer points of Texas BBQ

Requirements:

  • Excellent programming skills in an embedded context, using C or C++
  • Results-oriented, dependable, and accountable
  • Strong ability to analyze existing code and debug
  • Strong understanding of Git version control
  • Comfortable reading Python, Makefile, and Shell scripts
  • Bachelors Degree

The base salary range for this position in California is $130,000 - $150,000.
