Department OverviewThe Technical Operations team for the Rave Product Lines has a critical role in fulfilling Motorola Solutions' mission of keeping people connected and safe. We ensure the security and stability of our hosted products in collaboration with the Information Security, Engineering, and QA organizations on an active and ongoing basis, with a vision of a constantly improving process and technology base to support the populations that rely on us. TheDatabase Administrator is responsible for configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining the company's Production and Development environment databases in a consistent fashion. They will work with Development to improve the design and performance of our MySQL schemas. The holders of this role will be collectively responsible for owning, tracking, and resolving all database-related incidents and configuration requests to meet our SLA targets.

MySQL Server Maintenance

  • Backups, restores, clustering and replication

  • Understand MySQL Server's use of underlying Linux operating system platform and communicate requirements and standards to the system and network administrators

  • Evaluate, test and deploy new releases, patches and upgrades of the MySQL Server Platform

Monitoring and Planning

  • Proactively monitor MySQL platform to ensure stability and uptime against SLA

  • Implement improvements to our database performance and capacity monitoring in a continuous improvement cycle

Performance Tuning

  • Performance Tuning and Optimization using both third-party and nativemonitoring/troubleshooting tools

  • Index creation and management

  • Schema improvement recommendations

Security

  • Deploy table, field and database encryption per best practices

  • Maintain the server permissions model and monitoring of exceptions

  • Documentation creation and maintenance

  • Annotated schema layouts

  • Server configuration, design decisions, and rationale

  • Procedures and other related documents as required

Production Support

  • On-Call rotation in support of Database Platform

  • Off-hours maintenance activities as scheduled

  • Ad hoc management of data for both reporting and performance adjustments

  • Respond to critical alerts

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience as a database administrator, with at least 2 of those years being focused on MySQL 5+ on Linux

  • An energetic self-starter, who is comfortable in a team-oriented environment.

  • Extensive knowledge of database systems with a focus on MySQL

  • Familiarity with common tools and techniques needed to develop and maintain database systemsboth on physical servers in and cloud environments (AWS/Azure particularly key)

  • Experience with Enterprise MySQL replication topologies

  • Familiarity with modern development support tools, such as GIT, JIRA, and Confluence or equivalents

  • Familiarity with some form of Unix/Linux shell scripting in support of MySQL (BASH, KSH, PERL, and/or Python)

  • Familiarity with MySQL Server security hardening

  • Skills with troubleshooting MySQL performance and failure issues in a rapid and comprehensive manner

  • Strong attention to detail

Note: Candidate can reside anywhere in the US.
