Department OverviewThe FSO (Field Service Organization) is responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of highly technical, mission critical communications systems at customer locations. Job tasks include but are not limited to: deployment, optimization, and repair of infrastructure, NICE public safety loggers, 911/ECW/Airbus equipment, subscribers, microwave, computers, servers and network equipment both internally and externally to Motorola Solutions. The FSO Department works with System Managers, Engineers, Sales Team, Project Managers, System Technologists and Service Partners to accomplish the assigned tasks. The FSO Department is on call 100% to cover the public safety customers. The Sr. Field Service Technician will service and support the public safety customers in and around Salt Lake City, Utah. Job Description
  • Post-sale installation, optimization, maintenance and management of highly technical, mission critical communication systems.
  • Focus on maintaining optimal performance levels across an integrated system while taking a pro-active approach to system level alarms/errors.
  • Perform system hardware and software installation and optimization including advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Manage system availability through routine system maintenance and performance monitoring.
  • Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with focus on trend analysis and documentation of results.
  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system implementation, upgrades or support issues.
  • Provide a totally familiar with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques in transport, communications and RF systems.
  • Team with System Management, Engineering, Project Management, Sales Personnel, System Technologists and our Public Safety Partners to effectively design, implement, optimize and cut-over advanced communication systems which meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Perform troubleshooting at sub-system level as a subject matter expert and strive for optimal systemperformance.
  • Develop and present technical training, provide guidance in integrating newtools solutions into the operations of the team.
  • Solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.
  • Utilize equipment commonly used in the optimization and testing of Motorola Two-Way radio (Communications Systems Analyzers, watt meters, TIMS sets, CPS, RSS, Antenna SystemsAnalyzers (FDRs), T1 test sets, etc.)
  • Deliver professional experience in the configuration and testing of Motorola two-way radio and subscriber products.
  • Deliver a good understanding of Motorola trunking, P25 and SmartZone systems
  • Configure and test channel banks, routers, hubs, and switches
  • Provide good interpersonal skills, as this position requires working closely with internal Motorolan's and Public Safety customers.

Required Equipment:

  • VHF, UHF, 700/800 public radio systems.
  • 911/ECW/Airbus equipment
  • NG911 infrastructure installation, optimization and maintenance.
  • NICE public safety installation, optimization and maintenance.

Travel/Location:

  • On-call 50%
  • Opportunity to travel 25-50% within T7 region, this includes Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and El Paso, TX.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain background clearance as required by US government customer(s)
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • CET will be required within 6 months of hiring.
  • FCC License and industry certifications are a plus.
  • Must have/keep a clean driving record.
  • Associates Degree or EET, Technical Certified, Project Management, IT Certified OR Military Technical Certified
  • Able to successfully pass and maintain the ability to pass background checks and obtain security clearances as well as have/keep a clean driving record
  • Strong knowledge of wired/wireless communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), must be proficient in computer network installation, configuration and maintenance, NICE public safety loggers, systems to include cabling, routers, switches, and bridges.
  • Strong knowledge of NICE public safety loggers and P25 radio systems.
  • Strong knowledge in standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as, knowledge of packet switching techniques
  • Highly computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access
  • Self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: P25 Systems, NICE public safety loggers, LMR RF systems, wired/wireless communication systems, networking equipment, IT networks.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

  • 3+ years experience in one of the following areas: Electronics Technician, System Manager, Field Service, Test Technician, Network Support, IT Support, or Systems Technician OR LMR, RF Systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Motorola equipment, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, Networking Equipment, IP Networking, Solutions Architecture, VESTA, 9-1-1, ASTRO 25, P25, WAVE VoIP, or Military experience
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain background clearance as required by US government customer(s)
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
