The Field Installation Technician role is an hybrid position located primarily in Winchester, VA. The Field Installation Technician must be able to travel to and from Winchester, VA and support other public safety customers as needed.

  • Perform the removal and installation of Fixed Network Equipment (FNE) and mobile communications equipment, following best practices and adhering to R56 Standards and Guidelines.

  • Verify site grounding continuity using a clamp-on ground resistance tester.

  • Install various 12-volt electronic equipment, including emergency lights and controllers, sirens, mobile computer and docking stations, radio chargers, mobile video recording equipment, GPS equipment, equipment consoles, and safety cages.

  • Conduct antenna systems analysis using a Frequency Domain Reflectometer (FDR).

  • Identify and propose optimal installation locations and methods for each type/model of vehicle, ensuring customer agreement and documenting the chosen locations/methods.

  • Troubleshoot and repair existing equipment installations.

  • Complete pre and post-installation checklists to ensure proper functioning of the vehicle's existing accessories, lights, and components.

  • Lead installation projects on a larger scale when required.

  • Team with Engineering, Project Management, and Sales personnel to effectively maintain, optimize and support advanced communication systems which meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Conduct site walks to confirm equipment installation requirements and, if necessary, create customer quotes for new and add-on projects.

  • Record customer information, work details, hours worked, parts used, and any specific instructions from the customer.

  • Thoroughly document the condition of the vehicle before and after work is completed.

  • Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.

  • Continuous training in the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques

Specific Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of R.F. systems, such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access to support field operations.

  • Demonstrate strong self-management skills and interpersonal communication abilities to collaborate closely with Motorola's customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as internal teams such as Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service.

  • Take initiative and be self-motivated to perform your duties effectively, even when working at a distance from direct supervision.

  • Apply your problem-solving skills to quickly resolve customer issues during potentially stressful situations.

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, demonstrating a high sense of urgency and a results-oriented mindset.

Candidate Requirements

  • Be prepared to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as required by project demands.

  • Must be able to obtain the necessary background clearance as required by government customers.

  • Flexibility for occasional travel may be required to support project needs.

  • Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.

  • Holding a Security+, CompTIA, or related certificate is highly desirable.

  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain background clearance as required by US government customer(s)

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Basic Requirements
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • 2+ years of experience with one or more of the following: Public Safety, LMR, Radio, Information Technology, RF Systems, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, Networking Equipment, Mobile Radio Communications Equipment, Military experience, or Basic Electronics
