We are seeking an experienced and visionary Coastal Engineering Lead to join our growing practice focused on the Gulf Coast and Florida regions.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in leading the planning, design, and implementation of coastal engineering projects, including shoreline protection, erosion control, habitat restoration, and resilience planning. This position requires a deep understanding of coastal processes, a strong track record of project management, and the ability to cultivate client relationships with key government agencies.
Key Responsibilities:


  • Project Leadership: Lead the design and implementation of complex coastal engineering projects, ensuring they meet technical, financial, and regulatory requirements.


  • Strategic Planning: Lead and support the practice in decision making such as overall strategic direction, goal setting, identifying clients, market challenges and opportunities


  • Technical Expertise: Provide expert guidance on coastal processes, modeling, and engineering solutions, including beach nourishment, dune restoration, waterfront structures, and other protective measures.


  • Client Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, including state and local government agencies, to secure new business opportunities and ensure successful project delivery.


  • Team Management: Develop, oversee and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.


  • Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities, contribute to proposal development, and participate in presentations to secure contracts.


  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all project work is completed to the highest standards of quality and safety, in compliance with relevant regulations and industry best practices.


  • Budget and Schedule Management: Develop and manage project budgets and schedules, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.


  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with public agencies, community groups, and other stakeholders to align project goals with community needs and environmental considerations.


  • Research and Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest developments in coastal engineering, climate change adaptation, and resilience planning, and integrate innovative approaches into project work.


Qualifications:


  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Coastal, Ocean Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree or higher is preferred.


  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license required in one or more states along the Gulf Coast, with the ability to obtain licensure in relevant states if not already held.


  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in coastal engineering, with a strong portfolio of successfully completed projects in the Gulf Coast or similar regions.


  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in coastal processes modeling software (e.g., Delft3D, ADCIRC, SWAN), GIS applications, and other relevant engineering tools.


  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to a range of audiences.


  • Expertise: Demonstrated project experience through professional publications and presentations.


  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage teams, with a focus on mentoring and professional development.


  • Business Acumen: Strong understanding of business development processes, including proposal writing and client presentations.


  • Travel: Willingness to travel as needed to meet with clients, attend project sites, and participate in industry events.
