Reports to, assists and support the Supervisor in coordination and execution of maintenance & repair activity of wind turbine blades, nacelles, & mucilaginous composite components. Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the company's values and behaviors as defined by the ONE RWE philosophy.
- Assure that all operation and maintenance activities are performed in a safe manner consistent with policies and procedures established for the wind farm site. This includes wearing essential safety equipment, including a personal fall arrest system, as well as identifying potential hazards on the job.
- Pass physical fitness tests required to maintain Global Wind Organization Certification.
- Climb wind towers and access wind turbines to perform composites repair & maintenance tasks.
- Lift, carry, and transport essential equipment, tools, and materials to job site.
- Assist in transportation, setup and the operation of up-tower blade access mechanism.
- Support a team in performing rope, platform, and ground access composite repairs on multiple turbine manufactures, including GE, Siemens, Vestas, Gamesa and/or Mitsubishi. Repairs include:
- Assist in mobilization of all repair equipment to site.
- Assist in major component replacement, which will primarily focus on blades.
- Assure proper storage, maintenance and handling of all Blade Repair Service equipment.
- Travel up to 75% (9 months of the year, 3 are spend at the designated farm during down time)
- Willing and able to obtain and maintain a RWE sponsored, Commercial Driver License (CDL), if so requested by RWE for mobilization of our composite component repair equipment.
- Perform safety and other wind farm related tasks when assigned and fill in as back up to personnel at other RWE sites when necessary.
- Self-motivator; Ability to work successfully, safely and independently at remote wind farm locations.
- Perform all other duties assigned as may be required from time to time
Qualifications:
- Must be able to provide proof of High School Diploma or GED - Required
- Must be able to relocate within 1 hour distance of the designated O&M (TX, IL or IN)
- Minimum of 1 year of overall experience in operation & maintenance of electromechanical apparatus, composite systems, or aerospace / marine composites manufacturing & engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in blade damage assessment and repair required
- Experience across multiple manufactures (i.e. Siemens, GE, Vestas, Mitsubishi) and repair types strongly preferred.
- Previous crane and rigging experience preferred.
- Composite repair experience on wind turbine blades preferred
- Work experience and education must provide a foundation on:
- Basic understanding of composite materials and tools used during repairs.
- Techniques, skills and tools needed to repair the different type of damages in wind turbine blades, including (but not limited).
- Support repairs on the first layer of glass, core, & inner laminate.
