Your Role With Us: The Director of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Learning (IDEAL) researches, recommends and implements diversity and inclusion programs for Salem Health Hospitals and Clinics to ensure cultural and other diversity interests are identified, valued and promoted to all stakeholders, including employees, patients and their families, volunteers and general community members. This position serves as an internal subject matter expert on diversity and inclusion issues and is a resource to help facilitate problem solving around such issues with the goal of ensuring a culture that is respectful and inclusive of all types of diversity. Works with Community Relations to establish and maintain key community relationships that support diversity and inclusion and are representative of our minority populations. Core Functions:
- Leads and serves as an advisor to leadership.
- Collects and analyzes data to identify opportunities, and recommends strategies and tactics to address gaps, ensuring a comprehensive approach.
- Develops and leads IDEAL strategic plan and monitors progress. Provides reporting to Sr. leadership, government entities and the Board of Directors on progress.
- Works closely with Community Relations to establish and maintain external relationships with key groups and individuals within the community to ensure understanding of underrepresented populations, and builds relationships with such.
- Manages community perception around IDEAL at Salem Health.
- Develops and conducts individual and group training/education aimed at changing organizational culture and biases. Ensures that the message of DEI is comprehensive to include culture and ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion and life experiences.
- Works with Sr. Leadership, external entities and the Board of Directors on effective approaches to identifying diverse talent, and partners with Talent Acquisition to establish an effective selection process that ensures equal opportunity and eliminates unintentional bias in the selection process.
- In partnership with Human Resources, may participate in investigating discrimination complaints.
- Partners with Leaders to provide coaching on diversity/cultural competency/inclusion issues as an outcome to discrimination investigations.
- Establishes and maintains support programs for specialized groups of diverse staff, placing special emphasis on welcoming and connecting new diverse members of the team to help ensure a sense of inclusion and encourage retention of staff. Leads and manages coordination of events celebrating IDEAL.
- Networks with other organizations and community forums, sharing and obtaining best practices around IDEAL.
- Establishes and maintains IDEAL communications strategy including periodicals, educational materials, webpage etc. to ensure access to resources and information for internal/external consumption.

Background/Expertise:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, International Studies, or closely related field required.
- Master's degree required, or able to obtain within four (4) years of hire.
- Minimum of two (2) years' professional level experience in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), Human Resources, or closely related field required.
- Experience in DEI workplace efforts, including but not limited to: facilitating or presenting workplace diversity topics, group training and/or curriculum development, leading large projects and/or organizational change, etc., required.

They will demonstrate respect, tolerance, empathy and humility in working with diverse groups of people, and will have a strong awareness of cultural diversity and biases of self and others.
