Lab Technician I

Michigan Center, MI / On-Site

2nd Shift 3:00p-11:30pm

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs testing of finished goods and in-process line samples to ensure they are within quality specifications

  • Testing requirements include but not limited to viscosity, density, specific gravity, swell rates, appearance, etc.

  • Determine how to correct out-of-spec materials and direct production to make those adjustments

  • Ensure safe and appropriate practices in lab and adhere to all EHS and internal safety rules and procedures including wearing proper PPE

  • Prepares & tests samples for advanced testing (i.e. peel and shear strength)

  • Maintains daily quality log, history files, etc.

  • Maintains the sample retain room

  • Interprets and applies inspection & tagging instructions, procedures and standards

  • Supports production for process testing

  • General housekeeping of QC Lab including cleaning and maintaining test equipment

  • Initiates non-conformance material reporting

  • Supports R&D development testing, as needed

  • Monitors lab and production equipment calibration and report as needed

  • Performs production process audits

  • Volunteer to help where needed to get job done and enhance skills

  • Part sorting, PPAP measurements, paperwork processing, etc.

Minimum Requirements

  • Needs a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Must be able to do basic math

  • Able to read and comprehend work instructions

  • Demonstrate good communication skills

  • Able to perform job with minimal supervision

  • Good organizational skills; able to keep records

  • Some mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills are required

  • Experience with shiftwork

Preferred Experience

  • Preferred experience in a lab or manufacturing environment

  • Preferred experience with ERP systems

Physical Environment:

  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and bending

  • Requires ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.
